How much does Canadian spousal sponsorship cost?
Last updated: January, 2026
As of late 2025, the main IRCC fees to sponsor one spouse or partner for permanent residence – often referred to as Spouse Sponsorship Canada Fees are:
- Sponsorship fee: $85
- Processing fee for the sponsored spouse/partner: $545
- Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF): $575
Altogether, the standard government fees come to $1,205 CAD for one partner, not including children. Those are official immigration Canada sponsorship fees published by IRCC.
Most couples will also need to budget for a few additional costs, depending on their situation:
- Biometrics: typically $85 per person, with a family maximum of $170. Some people are exempt or may already have valid biometrics on file.
- Medical exam: commonly ranges from $200 to $450, depending on the clinic and country.
- Police certificates: fees differ worldwide; some countries charge, some don’t.
- Translation or notarization for documents not in English or French.
- Printing, courier, and mailing costs, especially if you’re submitting any paper documents.
If you’re adding dependent children, IRCC charges $175 for each child included in the same application. This is the complete processing fee for children – they do not pay the RPRF (Right of Permanent Residence Fee).
For spouses applying inside Canada who want an open work permit while their PR is being processed, there is a separate fee of $255 CAD ($155 for processing + $100 open work permit holder fee). Biometrics may also apply.
Also consider Immigration Consultant Cost separately.
If the sponsor lives in Quebec, there are additional provincial MIFI fees for the sponsorship undertaking, which add a few hundred dollars to the total.
If you’re wondering “Is the partner visa fee increasing in 2026?”, IRCC last raised fees on April 30, 2024, and the regulations allow another adjustment every two years to account for inflation, which means around April 2026 – but no fee increase has been announced yet, so a change is possible but not confirmed.
