IRCC requires Indian residents to complete specific forms and provide supporting documents that verify identity, travel history, and marital status.

Travel History (IMM 5562)

Required for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+, especially if they have travelled internationally. This form helps IRCC understand past residence patterns and time spent abroad.

Identity Evidence for Late-Registered Birth Certificates

Late registration is very common in India. If the birth certificate was issued long after the date of birth, IRCC expects additional proof of identity, such as:

  • Baptism certificate
  • Older school records (5th class, middle standard, or matriculation)
  • Voter ID card

These must accompany the PSA birth certificate to avoid delays.

Divorce Documentation (If Applicable)

If the applicant or sponsor was previously married, IRCC requires full copies of the:

  • Divorce petition
  • Judgment
  • Final decree

These documents must be complete — partial records are not accepted.

  • Indian applicants must provide:

    • A Police Clearance Certificate from their current residence in India
    • PCCs from any other country lived in for 6+ months since age 18

These clearances may be issued by Passport Seva Kendra (PSK), local police stations, or Indian embassies/consulates. Start early — processing times vary.

Any document not issued in English or French must be professionally translated. IRCC requires:

  • Certified translation
  • A copy of the original
  • Translator affidavit (if the translator is not certified)

This often applies to older civil records or regional-language documents.

After submission, IRCC issues a Biometrics Instruction Letter. Indian applicants typically complete biometrics at Visa Application Centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, or Kolkata, or at a VAC abroad if residing outside India.
