Is the partner visa fee increasing in 2026?
Last updated: January, 2026
As of late 2025, the official IRCC fees to sponsor a spouse or partner for permanent residence remain the same as the last update issued by IRCC. For one spouse or partner included in a Spouse PR application, the current government fees are:
- Sponsorship fee: $85
- Processing fee for the sponsored spouse/partner: $545
- Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF): $575
Altogether, the standard government fees come to $1,205 CAD for one partner. These spouse visa Canada fees were last updated during the permanent residence fee increase on April 30, 2024.
Most couples should also plan for several additional expenses, depending on their situation
- Biometrics: usually $85 per person, with a family maximum of $170, unless the applicant already has valid biometrics on file.
- Medical exam: generally $200 to $450, depending on the clinic and country.
- Police certificates: costs vary by country; some are free, while others charge a fee.
- Certified translations, notarizations, passport photos, printing, courier, and mailing costs may also apply.
If dependent children are included in the application, IRCC charges $175 per child. This is the complete processing fee for each child—children do not pay the RPRF.
For inland applicants who want an Open Work Permit for Sponsored Spouses, there is a separate fee of $255 CAD ($155 processing + $100 open work permit holder fee).

Applicants in Quebec should also expect additional MIFI fees, which add a few hundred dollars to the overall sponsorship cost.
Regulations do allow IRCC to adjust permanent residence fees every 2 years for inflation, which means the next possible change could occur around April 2026, but nothing is confirmed yet.
