El Salvador to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from El Salvador must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions clarify whether additional local forms are needed and set out document requirements that apply to Salvadoran nationals.
For El Salvador applicants, no extra country-specific forms are required. However, official documents issued in El Salvador must be government-certified true copies, and marriage certificates must be issued by the Alcaldía Municipal or Registro Civil.

Applicants from El Salvador must follow the IRCC country-specific spousal sponsorship instructions for El Salvador.
The El Salvador instructions confirm that there are no extra country-specific forms for residents of El Salvador.
Civil Documents
Official documents issued in El Salvador must be provided as government-certified true copies.
The copy must be certified as authentic by the government office that issued the document. It must be:

El Salvador to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from El Salvador must follow the Mexico City visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Mexico City Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5837, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For El Salvador applicants, IMM 5837 focuses on passport validity and blank pages, VAC consent where applicable, and recent documents for financial support provided by a third party.
Required Forms
El Salvador study permit applicants must follow the Mexico City Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

Passport Documents
El Salvador study permit applicants must provide passport documents as listed by the Mexico City visa office.
The passport or travel document must have:
- at least one completely blank page, other than the last page
- validity for at least six months
- validity covering the planned stay in Canada
Financial Documents
El Salvador study permit applicants must provide proof of funds covering tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
If a third party, including a parent, is providing the funds, the applicant must include:
- a signed letter from the person providing the funds
- a photocopy of that person’s passport or other official photo identification
- a bank certificate showing that the person has sufficient funds
The third-party support documents must be dated within three months of the date the application is submitted.
El Salvador to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from El Salvador may need to follow the Mexico City visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Mexico City Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5878, which is used together with the standard temporary resident visa checklist.
For El Salvador applicants, IMM 5878 does not identify any separate El Salvador-specific documents, local authority records, country-specific forms, or El Salvador-only submission requirements.

Financial Evidence and Travel History
El Salvador visitor visa applicants should provide evidence that they can cover the expenses of their visit.
Applicants who do not qualify under the CAN+ provisions should include financial documents such as:
- bank statements covering the previous three months;
- employment letters and pay slips;
- proof of property ownership, pension income, business registration or investments; and
- other records showing available financial resources.
If another person is paying for the trip, the application should also include:
- a signed letter confirming the financial support;
- a copy of the supporter’s passport or other official photo identification; and
- documents showing that the supporter has sufficient funds.
Applicants should also include any cancelled or expired passports showing their previous international travel, where available.
Purpose-Specific Documents
Additional documents may be required depending on the purpose of the applicant’s visit to Canada.
Business visitors should provide a letter from their employer explaining the purpose of the trip and listing the names and addresses of the companies they plan to visit.
Applicants travelling to Canada for a short period of study should include a copy of the acceptance letter from the Canadian educational institution.
Applicants transiting through Canada by air for less than 48 hours should provide their travel itinerary and, where applicable, a visa for their destination country.
Applicants visiting family or friends should provide an invitation letter containing the information requested under the Mexico City visa office instructions.
Emergency Processing Requests
El Salvador visitor visa applicants submitting their application through the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City may use the Emergency Processing Request Form included in IMM 5878 when requesting urgent processing.
Applicants should provide their application details, contact information and a clear explanation of the circumstances supporting the emergency request. Submitting the form does not guarantee that the application will receive expedited processing.
