Country-Specific Documents
Turkey maintains a highly centralized civil registry system through the Nüfus ve Vatandaşlık İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü (Directorate of Civil Registration and Nationality).
- Required Documents: Applicants must provide:
- Full-form birth registration (Nüfus Kayıt Örneği).
- Marriage certificate (Evlenme Kayıt Örneği).
- Family registry document (often a Vukuatlı Nüfus Kayıt Örneği), which is frequently requested to confirm parents, children, previous marital status, and name changes within the family unit.
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562): The principal applicant and all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older must complete this form.
- Translation & International Documents: These documents are typically issued in Turkish only.
- Certified translations into English or French are generally mandatory.
Crucial Tip: Applicants can specifically request the multilingual format certificates (such as Formül A for Birth and Formül B for Marriage). These international CIEC Convention certificates are designed to be accepted in many foreign countries and may waive the need for a separate certified translation, significantly speeding up the process.
Police Certificates (PCC)
Turkey issues police certificates through the e-Devlet (e-Government) system or through provincial prosecutor’s offices.
- Required Document: The certificate is called the “Adli Sicil Kaydı” (Criminal Record Certificate).
- Comprehensive Check: Applicants often need both the criminal record and the archive record (Arşiv Kaydı) depending on personal history, ensuring all necessary background information is covered.
Process: Certificates obtained via e-Devlet are typically accepted by Canadian authorities if accompanied by a certified translation (unless the certificate itself is bilingual). Applicants outside Turkey must apply through the Turkish embassy or consulate, which will forward the request, adding processing time.

Complete this form for anyone included on the application who has ever- held a high-ranking or senior official government position or
- served in the military, army, defence or police unit (including National Service) Submit a copy of all pages of their military card or booklet, including the blank pages
- Mandatory Documentation: Military service is compulsory for Turkish men. Male applicants between the ages of 20 and 41 must provide documentation confirming their military status, even if they have not served.
Accepted Documents: This includes a certificate of completion, exemption, or deferral of military service (including those who completed the paid military service buy-out program). The required document can often be retrieved via the e-Devlet system or the relevant military branch office.

Name Formatting & Identity Details
- Consistency is Key: Turkish names sometimes include special characters (Ç, Ş, İ, ğ, ö, ü) and multiple surname changes due to marriage traditions. Applicants must ensure absolute, consistent spelling across passports, civil records, forms, and translations, as mismatches or inconsistent romanization can cause significant delays.
