Thailand to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Thailand? You might be relieved that Thailand has no “extra” forms. However, the Bangkok Visa Office has strict expectations regarding Civil Registration and Identity Documents.

Country-Specific Documents
While there are no unique Thai forms, accuracy on standard forms is key.
- Travel History (IMM 5562): We strongly recommend completing this form for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.
Required Civil Documents
Thai civil documents are unique. IRCC requires specific versions to verify your status.
- House Registration (Tabien Baan): This is the primary proof of residency and family composition in Thailand. You must submit a certified copy of the applicant’s Tabien Baan.
- Marriage Documents (Kor Ror 2 vs. Kor Ror 3):
- Kor Ror 2 (Marriage Registration): This is the official legal extract from the district office. You must submit this.
- Kor Ror 3 (Marriage Certificate): This is the decorative certificate given at the ceremony. While nice to have, it is not sufficient on its own.
- Name Change Certificates (Chor 3): Name changes are very common in Thailand. If the applicant has ever changed their name (first or last), you must submit the Chor 3 certificate to link their birth certificate to their current passport.
Police Certificates (PCC)
- Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide a Police Clearance Certificate.
- Issuing Authority: This is issued by the Royal Thai Police (Special Branch) in Bangkok.
Process: You can apply in person or via mail if abroad. The certificate is typically issued in English.
Translation Requirements
- Most Thai documents (Tabien Baan, Birth Certificate, Kor Ror 2) are in Thai. They must be accompanied by a certified English or French translation and a copy of the original.
- Tip: Many district offices in Thailand can issue documents in English, or you can use the consular affairs department for legalization/translation services to be safe.
