Norway to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Last updated: January, 2026
Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Norway? While the process is streamlined, the London Visa Office (which processes Norwegian files) has very specific expectations regarding Civil Registration documents issued by the Tax Administration.
From 2016 to 2025, we supported 114 clients from Norway through the Canadian immigration process. If you’d like a full overview of spouse sponsorship Canada, you can just book a consultation with our Canadian immigration representatives. Also, you can check our Immigration Consultant Cost.
Country-Specific Documents
Travel History (IMM 5562): We strongly recommend completing this form for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.
Required Civil Documents
Norway does not issue traditional “birth certificates” in the same way as other countries. All civil status is tracked by the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten).
- Requirement: You must submit a Confirmation of Birth or Marriage Certificate extracted from the National Population Register (Folkeregisteret).
Tip: You can usually order these documents in English or a multilingual format directly from Skatteetaten, saving you translation costs.
Police Certificates (PCC)
- Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide a Police Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Issuing Authority: This is issued by the Norwegian Police (Politiet).
- Process: You can apply online via the Police website using your BankID.
- Purpose: When applying, select “Immigration/Visa” as the purpose.
Translation Requirements
Request your documents in English directly from the authorities.
If any document is not in English or French, include:
- the original document (or required certified copy), plus
- a certified translation
Make sure names, dates, and document details match exactly between the original and the translation.
