Kosovo to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Last updated: January, 2026

Sponsor spouse or partner from Kosovo to Canada

Are you planning to sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Kosovo to Canada? You may be wondering if there are any Kosovo-specific hurdles to watch for.

The short answer is yes. While Kosovo does not have extensive document add-ons, military service disclosure is a critical country-specific requirement, and missing or incomplete records are a common cause of delays.

Based on IRCC’s Kosovo instructions and the most common Kosovo-specific pitfalls, here is exactly what you need to prepare to avoid preventable delays.

With Kosovo-based applications, the strongest files are the ones that treat military service disclosure as non-negotiable and ensure absolute consistency across all background forms.

Our Toronto immigration consultants assisted many clients from Kosovo, so we know exactly where Kosovo-based applications tend to slow down—and how to prevent it. If you’d like a full overview, you can visit our Spousal Sponsorship page, review our spousal sponsorship fees, and book a consultation for more personalized guidance based on your situation.

Additional forms for residents
Applicants from Kosovo must pay close attention to military service history.

Details of Military Service – IMM 5546 (mandatory when applicable)
The principal applicant must complete IMM 5546 if they served in the military at any time during:

  • 1991–1995, or
  • 1999

If this applies, the application must also include:

  • copies of all pages of the military booklet, including blank pages.

Failure to disclose applicable military service or submitting incomplete military records is a frequent trigger for follow-up requests.

No additional document instructions
Apart from military service disclosure, IRCC does not list any special document instructions specific to Kosovo.

Military History Consistency
Even when IMM 5546 is properly submitted, inconsistencies between:

  • military dates,
  • travel history (IMM 5562), and
  • Schedule A (IMM 5669)

can raise concerns. All timelines should align clearly across forms and supporting documents.

If any document is not in English or French, submit:

  • the original document (or clear copy, as applicable), plus
  • a certified translation that meets IRCC requirements.

Names, dates, and service periods must match exactly between originals and translations.
