Sponsor spouse or partner from Ireland to Canada

Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Ireland? While the process is straightforward, the London Visa Office is strict about Civil Registration formats and Police Checks.

From 2016 to 2025, we supported 141 clients from Ireland through the Canadian immigration process. If you’d like a full overview of spouse sponsorship Canada, you can just book a consultation with our Canadian immigration representatives. Also, you can check our Immigration Consultant Cost

While there are no unique Irish forms, accuracy on standard forms is key.

  • Travel History (IMM 5562): We strongly recommend completing this form for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.

Do not submit the short birth certificate.

  • Birth Certificates: You must submit the Long Form Birth Certificate (Full Standard Certificate) which lists both parents’ names. The “Short Form” is not accepted for immigration purposes.
  • Marriage Certificates: Submit the official Civil Marriage Certificate issued by the General Register Office (GRO). Church certificates alone are not legal proof.
  • Name Changes (Deed Poll): If the applicant has changed their name (other than by marriage), you must submit the Enrolled Deed Poll to prove the legal change.
  • Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide a Police Certificate of Character.
  • Issuing Authority: This is issued by the An Garda Síochána.
  • Process: You must apply in writing to the Superintendent of your local Garda district.

Note: Ensure the certificate covers all addresses you lived at in Ireland.

No Translations Needed: Since English is the official language of Ireland, your civil documents generally do not require translation. However, if you have documents in Irish (Gaeilge), they will need a certified translation into English or French.
