Haiti to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Haiti? While Haiti requires no “extra forms” (like military questionnaires), the process is document-heavy. The real challenge lies in securing authentic civil records and the police certificate amidst the current security crisis.

Required Civil Documents

Haitian nationals must provide the following documents. Ensure the names and dates match your application exactly:

Birth Certificates: Must be the Extrait from the National Archives.
Marriage/Divorce Certificates: Also from the Archives.
Actes de Reconnaissance: Required for children born out of wedlock to prove parental links.
Baptism Certificates: often required as secondary proof, issued by the diocese or the Ministère des Cultes.

The Hidden Hurdle

In Haiti, a standard birth certificate from a local civil officer is often not enough. IRCC strictly requires that civil documents be verified extracts from the Archives Nationales d’Haïti.

Requirement: You must submit the Extrait des Archives (Extract from the Archives) for birth, marriage, and death certificates.
Format: Submit full copies (front and back) of the original extracts.

Police Certificates (PCC)

All applicants aged 18+ require a Certificat de Police from the Direction Centrale de la Police Judiciaire (DCPJ). Obtaining this is currently fraught with difficulty:

Severe Security Risks: Traveling to the DCPJ office in Port-au-Prince to apply in person can be life-threatening due to entrenched gang violence in the capital.
Administrative Hurdles: Offices face intermittent closures due to strikes or insecurity, and processing is often delayed.
