Guyana to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Guyana? You might be relieved that Guyana has no “extra” forms. However, the Port of Spain Visa Office is strict about Civil Registration and Police Checks.

Country-Specific Documents
While there are no unique Guyanese forms, accuracy on standard forms is key.
- Travel History (IMM 5562): We strongly recommend completing this form for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.
Required Civil Documents
Do not submit hospital records or church certificates.
- Requirement: Birth, Marriage, and Death certificates must be issued by the General Register Office (GRO).
- Name Changes (Deed Poll): If the applicant uses a name different from their birth certificate (that isn’t due to marriage), you must submit a registered Deed Poll to prove the legal name change.
Police Certificates (PCC)
- Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide a Police Certificate of Character.
- Issuing Authority: This is issued by the Guyana Police Force (Criminal Investigation Department).
- Process: You must apply in person at the Police Headquarters (Eve Leary, Georgetown) or a Divisional Headquarters. You will need to provide fingerprints and passport-sized photos.
Translation Requirements
No Translations Needed: Since English is the official language of Guyana, your civil documents generally do not require translation. This saves you time and money compared to other regions.
