Sponsor spouse or partner from Egypt to Canada

Sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Egypt

Egypt has strict country-specific requirements that can trigger delays if overlooked, especially the additional required forms for residents, the marriage certificate format requirement (non-computerized), and the full passport-copy requirement for passports used in the last 5 years.

Based on the Egypt country-specific requirements you provided, here’s what you need to prepare to avoid preventable delays.

From 2016 to 2025, our Toronto immigration consultants supported 297 clients from Egypt through the Canadian immigration process. If you’d like a full overview, you can visit our Spousal Sponsorship page, review our spousal sponsorship fees, and book a consultation for more personalized guidance based on your situation.

Egypt – Additional forms for residents
Egypt requires extra forms for residents:

  • Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562) (digital form)
The principal applicant and all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older must complete this form.
  • Details of Military Service (IMM 5546)
Complete this form for anyone included on the application who has ever:
    • held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
    • served in the military, army, defence, or police unit (including National Service)
  • Also required (if applicable): Submit a copy of all pages of the military card/booklet, including blank pages.

Egypt – Instructions for documents
Egypt has specific document-format rules:

  • Marriage certificates must be non-computerized.
  • If the principal applicant holds an Egyptian passport or travel document, they must provide a full copy of all passports used in the last 5 years.

Official and civil documents must be certified copies.

Egypt files often get delayed when applicants submit documents in the wrong format, even when the document “looks official.”

What to watch closely:

  • Submitting a computerized marriage certificate instead of the required non-computerized version
  • Forgetting the full copies of all passports used in the last 5 years (when the applicant holds an Egyptian passport/travel document)
  • Uploading civil documents that are not certified copies

If any document is not in English or French, include:

  • the original document (or required certified copy), plus
  • a certified translation

Make sure names, dates, and document details match exactly between the original and the translation.

  • Missing Egypt’s additional resident forms (IMM 5562 for all family members 18+; IMM 5546 when applicable)
  • Submitting a computerized marriage certificate (instead of the required non-computerized certificate)
  • Not providing full copies of all passports used in the last 5 years (when required)
  • Uploading documents that are not certified copies
  • Submitting non-English/French documents without a complete certified translation package

With Egypt applications, the strongest files are the ones that treat Egypt’s format rules as non-negotiable: IMM 5562 completed for all adults 18+, IMM 5546 and full military booklet copies where applicable, non-computerized marriage certificates, full passport copies for the last 5 years (when required), and certified copies of official/civil documents.
