Cuba to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Last updated: January, 2026
Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Cuba? While Cuba does not require “extra” forms like IMM 5546 (Military), the Havana Visa Office is extremely strict about civil documents and translations.
From 2016 to 2025, we supported 95 clients from Cuba through the Canadian immigration process. If you’d like a full overview of spouse visa Canada requirements, you can just book a consultation with our Canadian immigration experts. Also, you can check our Immigration Consultant Cost.
Required Civil Documents
Cuban civil documents must be recent and verifiable.
- Single Status Certificate (Certificado de Soltería): If you or your spouse were single before this marriage, you must provide this certificate to prove there were no previous impediments to marriage.
- Divorce Certificate: Do not just submit the court judgment (Sentencia). IRCC generally requires the official Certificado de Divorcio issued by the civil registry.
- Identity Card (Carné de Identidad): You must provide a clear photocopy of the principal applicant’s Carné de Identidad (both sides).
Police Certificates (PCC)
- Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide the Certificación de Antecedentes Penales.
- Validity: This document expires quickly. It must be issued within the last 3 months at the time of submission.
- Legalization: It is highly recommended that this document be legalized by MINREX (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Cuba to ensure it is accepted as authentic.
Translation Requirements
If any document is not in English or French, include:
- the original document (or required certified copy), plus
- a certified translation
Make sure names, dates, and document details match exactly between the original and the translation.
