China to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Last updated: January, 2026

Sponsor spouse or partner from China to Canada

Bringing a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from China to Canada is generally straightforward, but IRCC requires very specific civil documents—especially for births, marriages, and household records.

With accurate documentation and well-organized evidence, applicants can move through the sponsorship process smoothly and confidently. If at any point you feel unsure about a document or a specific step, our consultants are available to guide you and help avoid costly delays. From 2016 to 2024, our Canadian immigration consultants have supported 420 clients from China in navigating Canada’s immigration pathways with care and precision. You can book a consultation for personalized guidance or review our Immigration Consultant Fees to compare packages and choose the level of support that fits your needs. China does not require additional IRCC forms, but it does have strict documentation rules for civil status, birth records, and household registration.

Birth & Identification Documents

  • Applicants born after 1996 must submit a notarized medical birth certificate issued by the Ministry of Health.
  • If this document cannot be obtained, provide a written explanation.
  • IRCC does not accept kinship certificates as proof of relationship.

Household Registration (“Hukou”)

  • Required for the principal applicant and dependents.
  • Must include marital status for children 16+.

Marriage & Divorce Documents

  • Provide the official marriage certificate.
  • For Hong Kong divorces, include the Absolute Nisi Decree.

Address Format

If you live in a region where Chinese characters are used for mail delivery, provide:

  • The address in Chinese characters, and
  • The same address in Pinyin/English, including postal code.

All Chinese-language documents must include a certified translation and a clear copy of the original.
