Cameroon to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Last updated: January, 2026

Sponsor spouse or partner from Cameroon to Canada

Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from the Federal Republic of Cameroon? While the forms are largely standard, the civil documents require careful attention due to the specific legal systems in Cameroon.

The Federal Republic of Cameroon has a unique set of additional IRCC requirements that apply across all partner categories. While the general checklist changes based on your relationship type, the Cameroon-specific documents remain unchanged.

IRCC has strict instructions regarding Birth Certificates and Police Records to ensure authenticity.

From 2016 to 2025, we supported 186 clients from Cameroon through the Canadian immigration process. If you’d like a full overview of spouse visa Canada, you can just book a consultation with our Licensed immigration consultants. Also, you can check our Immigration Consultant Fees

  • Travel History (IMM 5562): Required for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.
  • Military Service (IMM 5546): Mandatory if the applicant has prior service in the military, police, or gendarmerie.
    • Note: If applicable, submit a full copy of the service booklet, including blank pages.

In Cameroon, it is common for birth certificates to be issued long after birth (Acte de Naissance). IRCC scrutinizes these closely.

  • If the birth certificate was NOT issued at the time of birth: You cannot simply submit the certificate. You must also provide:
    • The Supplementary Judgment (Jugement Supplétif) that authorized the late registration.
    • Secondary Proof: School records, baptismal certificates, or a Household Registry that lists the parents to confirm identity.

While a police certificate is required for all countries, Cameroon has specific versions.

  • Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide the Certificate of Non-Conviction (Extrait de Casier Judiciaire).
  • Crucial Detail: You must specifically request Bulletin No. 3. (Do not submit Bulletin No. 1 or No. 2, as these are for judicial use only and will be rejected).
  • Issuing Authority: This must be issued by the Ministry of Justice or the competent Court of First Instance (Tribunal de Première Instance).

If any document is not in English or French, include:

  • the original document (or required certified copy), plus
  • a certified translation

Make sure names, dates, and document details match exactly between the original and the translation.
