Last updated: January, 2026
Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Botswana? While the process is standard, the Pretoria Visa Office is strict about Identity Documents.
From 2016 to 2025, we supported 72 clients from Botswana through the Canadian immigration process. If you’d like a full overview of spouse sponsorship Canada, you can just book a consultation with our Canadian immigration advisers. Also, you can check our Immigration Consultant Fees.
Country-Specific Documents
Travel History (IMM 5562): We strongly recommend completing this form for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.
Required Civil Documents
- National ID: You must submit a clear copy of the applicant’s Omang (National Identity Card). This is the primary tracker for identity in Botswana.
- Birth/Marriage: Submit certified copies issued by the Department of Civil and National Registration.
Police Certificates (PCC)
- Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide a Police Clearance Certificate.
- Issuing Authority: This is issued by the Botswana Police Service (Criminal Record Bureau).
- Process: Requires a full set of fingerprints. You can apply at any local police station, but the fingerprints are verified in Gaborone.
Translation Requirements
English is the official language of business and government in Botswana. Most civil documents (Omang, Birth Certs, Police Clearance) are issued in English and do not require translation.
However, if any document is not in English or French, include:
- the original document (or required certified copy), plus
- a certified translation
Make sure names, dates, and document details match exactly between the original and the translation.
