Bosnia and Herzegovina to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Last updated: January, 2026
If you’re sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Bosnia and Herzegovina, IRCC requires the standard spousal sponsorship forms, plus one country-specific military form that must be handled carefully where applicable.
From 2016 to 2025, our Toronto immigration consultants assisted 97 clients from Bosnia and Herzegovina. This experience allows us to anticipate common issues and prepare applications in a way that reduces unnecessary delays or follow-up requests. If you’d like a full overview, you can visit our Spousal Sponsorship page, review our fees page, and book a consultation for guidance tailored to your situation.
Country-Specific Documents
Additional forms for residents
For Bosnia and Herzegovina, the following additional form may be required:
- Details of Military Service (IMM 5546)
- The principal applicant must complete this form if they served in the military at any time:
- between 1991 and 1995, or
- in 1999.
- A copy of all pages of the military booklet must be submitted, including blank pages.
- The principal applicant must complete this form if they served in the military at any time:
If the applicant did not serve during these periods, this form is not required.
Document Instructions
IRCC does not list any special document instructions for Bosnia and Herzegovina beyond the standard spousal sponsorship requirements.
That said, applications still move more smoothly when civil-status documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce records if applicable) are clear, complete, and consistent with the information declared in the application forms.
Translation Requirements
Documents issued in Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, or any language other than English or French must include:
- a copy of the original document, and
- a certified translation that meets IRCC standards.
Pay close attention to name spelling, dates, and identity details, especially across civil records and military documentation.
