Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner from Bangladesh? You might be relieved to hear that Bangladesh does not have a long list of “extra” forms like some other countries.

However, do not mistake “no extra forms” for “simple documents.” Bangladesh has very specific rules regarding Marriage and Identity documents. Failing to provide the correct version of these certificates is the #1 cause of delays.

Country-Specific Documents

For the vast majority of Bangladeshi applicants (Muslim marriages), a single marriage certificate is not enough. You must submit the full legal set:

The Nikah Nama (Marriage Deed): This is the detailed contract signed at the wedding. You must provide a certified English translation and a clear copy of the Bengali original.
The Government Marriage Certificate: This proves the Nikah was registered with the government.
Proof of Relationship: Because “fraudulent marriages” are a concern in the region, providing strong evidence of the wedding ceremony (photos of the Holud and reception) is critical.

Required Civil Documents

National ID (NID): While not explicitly listed as “extra,” most Bangladeshi adults possess a National ID (Smart Card). Failing to include this when you have one can trigger a document request later.
Birth Certificates: Ensure your birth certificate is the Online (Digital) Version verifiable at the government website. Older, handwritten municipal certificates are often rejected.
