Yemen to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Yemen must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional forms, military records, and civil-status documents that may be required for an application involving Yemeni nationals.
For Yemen applicants, the requirements include Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562), Details of Military Service (IMM 5546) for certain applicants with a senior government, military, defence, police, or National Service history, and copies of all military-card or booklet pages where applicable. Applicants divorced in Yemen must also provide the specified divorce documents.
Required Forms
Applicants from Yemen must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:

- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.

If an applicant got a divorce in Yemen, they must submit a copy of the document that applies to their situation:
- final irrevocable divorce
- final divorce judgment
Yemen to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Yemen must follow the Abu Dhabi visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5814, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Yemen applicants, IMM 5814 focuses on passport and residence documents, proof and sources of funds, third-party financial support, scholarship or award evidence, tuition-payment proof, and a one-page study plan.

Yemen study permit applicants must follow the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

Passport Documents
Yemen study permit applicants must provide passport documents as listed by the Abu Dhabi visa office.
Each person travelling, including children, must have their own passport.
The passport must have:
- at least one blank page
- validity for at least one month from the date the applicant intends to leave Canada
If the applicant does not want to submit the original passport for the full processing period, they must provide a photocopy of the complete passport pages.
Residence Visa
Applicants must provide a copy of their most recent Gulf residence visa if it is not affixed to their valid passport.
This requirement applies where the applicant’s Gulf residence visa is separate from the passport being submitted with the application.
Financial Documents
Yemen study permit applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
Applicants must also provide supporting documents showing a reliable source of funds that can be converted to Canadian dollars.
Relevant financial documents may include:
- a letter of undertaking and financial documents from a parent or sponsor
- an official scholarship or financial award letter
- investments
- income from rental properties
- bank statements covering several months
If tuition has already been paid, the applicant must provide proof of payment.
If the applicant receives a scholarship or award related to the study program, they must include the related scholarship or award documents.
If someone other than the applicant’s parents is providing financial support, the applicant must include:
- details of how the studies will be funded
- the applicant’s relationship to the person or institution providing the funding
- a detailed explanation of why that person or institution is providing financial support
- evidence of the sponsor’s financial ability to fund the education
Study Plan
Yemen applicants must provide a one-page study plan.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the accepted program
- the applicant’s overall educational goal
- why the applicant is not pursuing a similar program in the country of residence or citizenship
- what research the applicant has done into studies in the country of residence or citizenship
- how the program will improve employment opportunities in the country of residence or citizenship
- what ties the applicant has to the country of residence or citizenship
The study plan should also include details of the applicant’s education history, including dates, school name and address, course taken, qualification, degree, or certificate awarded.
Yemen to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Yemen must follow the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Instructions, IMM 5853, alongside the standard temporary resident visa requirements. These are visa-office instructions rather than Yemen-only instructions.
For Yemen applicants, documents not in English or French require certified translations. The checklist outlines CAN+ eligibility, financial evidence for self-funded or sponsored travel, and additional documents for business travellers, self-employed applicants, students, and minors travelling without both parents.
Visa Office
IRCC does not publish a separate Yemen-only visitor visa checklist.
For visitor visa applications from Yemen, IRCC’s current visitor visa flow shows Visa office instructions – Visit [IMM 5853].
The relevant document is the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Instructions, IMM 5853 E (02-2018).
These instructions are tied to the Abu Dhabi visa office, so they are visa-office instructions rather than Yemen-only instructions.
Document Rules
According to the Abu Dhabi checklist, documents that are not in English or French need a certified translation.
Applicants whose most recent Gulf residence visa is not attached to their valid passport may need to include a copy.
Financial Documents
The Abu Dhabi checklist includes a CAN+ option for some applicants.
If the applicant has travelled to Canada in the last 10 years or currently holds a valid United States nonimmigrant visa and can provide proof, proof of financial support may not be needed.
For other applicants, financial examples include:
- bank statements or bank book covering the past three months
- employment letter
- pay slips
- proof of pension
- business registration
- investments
When someone else funds the trip, applicants may need to include:
- signed letter from the person paying
- photocopy of that person’s passport or other official photo identification
- bank certificate showing sufficient funds
- explanation of the relationship
- documents dated within three months of the application date
Specific Situations
Some Abu Dhabi checklist items depend on the applicant’s situation.
For business travel, examples include:
- letter from the applicant’s employer
- letter from the host company in Canada
- purpose of the visit
- confirmation of who will cover travel costs
For self-employed applicants or business owners, examples include:
- company trade licence showing the expiry date
- number of shareholders in the company
- English or French translation of the trade licence
- personal bank statements for the past three months
For applicants who are currently studying, the checklist points to an official document confirming registration at an academic institution.
For minors travelling alone or with only one parent, examples include:
- proof of custody or consent letter from the non-accompanying parent
- copy of the non-accompanying parent’s civil identity document with signature
