Turkmenistan to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Turkmenistan must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional forms that may be required for an application involving Turkmen nationals.
For Turkmenistan applicants, the requirements include Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562), which must be completed by the principal applicant and all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.
Details of Military Service (IMM 5546) must also be completed for anyone included in the application who has ever held a high-ranking or senior official government position or served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service. If IMM 5546 applies, a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages, must also be submitted.
IRCC currently lists no additional country-specific document instructions for Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Turkmenistan must follow the Ankara visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Ankara Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5816, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit requirements.
For Turkmenistan applicants, IMM 5816 focuses on post-secondary transcripts and graduation certificates, recent English or French language test results, and a one-page personal statement explaining the applicant’s goals and how the proposed studies fit their academic and career plans.
Required Checklist
Turkmenistan study permit applicants must follow the Ankara Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation.
Academic and Language Documents
Turkmenistan applicants must provide documents supporting their academic background and language ability.
Applicants must provide:
- transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions they have attended
- graduation certificates or other proof of graduation from all post-secondary educational institutions they have attended
- results from an English or French language test taken within the previous two years

- IELTS
- TOEFL
- DELF
- TEF
Personal Statement
Turkmenistan applicants must provide a one-page personal statement.
The personal statement should explain:
- the applicant’s goals
- how the proposed study plan fits into their academic plans
- how the proposed study plan fits into their career plans
The statement should clearly connect the applicant’s proposed studies in Canada with their previous education and future objectives.
Turkmenistan to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Turkmenistan must follow the Ankara visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Ankara Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5855, which is used together with the standard Canada visitor visa requirements.
For Turkmenistan applicants, IMM 5855 focuses on proof of funds, employment or other occupational documents, business travel where applicable, invitation and host documents, immigration status where applicable, and additional documents for returning students or workers.
Required Forms and Immigration Status
Turkmenistan visitor visa applicants must follow the Ankara Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for temporary resident visas.
Country-specific checklist and locally listed form include:

- Schedule 1: Application for Temporary Residence — IMM 5257 SCH1, only if the applicant answered “yes” to any background information questions on the application form
If the applicant is not a citizen of the country where they are applying, they must provide documentary evidence showing that they are legally authorized to reside in that country.
Documents that are not in English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation.
Financial Documents
Turkmenistan applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover all expenses related to their visit to Canada.
Applicants should provide:
- bank statements or a bank book covering the previous six months
- proof of assets, such as real estate, investments, or other sources of income
If a person or organization outside Canada is paying for the visit, the applicant must provide:
- a detailed letter explaining the funding arrangement
- proof that the person or organization has the financial ability to support the visit, such as employment documents, bank statements, or property documents
If a host in Canada is paying for the visit, supporting documents should include:
- the host’s employment letter
- bank statements
- the host’s most recent Notice of Assessment or T4
- proof of the host’s status in Canada, such as Canadian citizenship, permanent residence, or a valid visa or permit
Employment and Business Documents
Turkmenistan applicants must provide proof of their occupation.
Employed applicants should provide a detailed employment letter showing:
- the period of employment
- position
- salary
- responsibilities
- confirmation that the applicant has authorized leave to travel to Canada
Retired applicants should provide proof of retirement income and savings.
Self-employed applicants should provide relevant documents such as:
- proof of income
- evidence of the business
- trade licence
- documents showing business activities
- contracts
Applicants who are currently studying should provide:
- a letter from their educational institution confirming enrolment
- their latest transcripts
For business travel, applicants must also provide:
- a detailed invitation letter from the Canadian company or companies they will contact explaining the reasons for the business trip
- a detailed letter from the applicant’s employer explaining the reasons for the business trip to Canada
Invitation and Returning Applicants
If a Turkmenistan applicant is visiting someone in Canada, they must provide a detailed invitation letter from the host.
The invitation should explain the relationship between the applicant and the host.
Applicants must also provide a copy of documents showing the host’s status in Canada, such as:
- proof of Canadian citizenship
- proof of permanent residence
- a valid Canadian authorization or permit
Returning students who hold a valid study permit must provide:
- a recent letter of good standing from the educational institution they attend in Canada
- copies of their transcripts
Returning workers who hold a valid work permit must provide a letter from their employer in Canada confirming:
- that they remain employed
- the expected duration of their employment
