Turkey to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Türkiye must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional forms, military records, and civil-status documents that may be required for an application involving Turkish nationals.
For Türkiye applicants, the requirements include IMM 5562 for travel history, IMM 5546 for certain applicants with a senior government, military, defence, police, or National Service history, and military card or booklet copies where applicable. A copy of the Vukuatlı Nüfus Kayıt Örneği is also required.
Country-Specific Documents
Applicants from Turkey must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]
- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.
- Details of Military Service [IMM 5546]
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service.
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- Vukuatli Nufus Kayit Ornegi
If IMM 5546 applies, submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages.
Applicants must also submit a copy of the Vukuatli Nufus Kayit Ornegi.
Military Documents
If IMM 5546 applies, applicants must submit a copy of every page of the person’s military card or booklet, including pages with no entries.
Turkey to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Turkey must follow the Ankara visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Ankara Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5816, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Turkey applicants, IMM 5816 focuses on the supporting documents that help show academic readiness, language preparation, study purpose, and recent work history. It does not create a separate study permit process, but it does set out additional document expectations for applications submitted under the Ankara visa office instructions.
Required Forms
Turkey study permit applicants must follow the Ankara Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.
Country-specific checklist:
IMM 5816 is used alongside the standard study permit checklist. It does not replace the general study permit requirements.
Student Records
Applicants from Turkey should provide documents confirming their post-secondary education history, including transcripts and proof of graduation from every post-secondary institution they have attended.
Applicants should also provide results from an international English or French language test taken within the previous two years. Examples listed in the checklist include:
- IELTS;
- TOEFL;
- DELF; and
- TEF.
These documents help demonstrate the applicant’s academic background and language preparation for studies in Canada.
Personal Statement
Turkey study permit applicants must include a one-page personal statement explaining how the proposed Canadian study program relates to their academic background and future career plans.
The statement should clearly connect:
- the applicant’s previous studies;
- the Canadian program they intend to pursue; and
- their career goals after completing the program.
The personal statement should be specific to the applicant’s circumstances and explain why the proposed study plan is a logical academic and professional progression. It should not rely on a general explanation of why Canada is an attractive study destination.
Work Documents
Applicants from Turkey who have worked within the previous three years should provide documents confirming their employment or self-employment history.
Employed applicants should include detailed employment letters showing:
- the period of employment;
- the position held;
- the salary; and
- the applicant’s job responsibilities.
Self-employed applicants should provide supporting business records, which may include:
- income statements;
- proof of business ownership or operation;
- a trade licence;
- a description of the business activities;
- contracts; or
- similar business documents.
These records help confirm the applicant’s personal history and show how their recent work experience relates to the proposed study plan.
Turkey to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Turkey must follow the Ankara Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5855 — in addition to the standard temporary resident visa requirements. These instructions identify the additional financial, employment, business, and travel-purpose documents that may be required for applicants from Turkey.
For Turkey applicants, IMM 5855 may require detailed proof of financial support, employment or business records, documents for applicants returning to Canada for work or study, and other supporting evidence depending on the purpose of the visit and the applicant’s circumstances.
Visa Office Instructions
Applicants from Turkey must follow the Ankara Visa Office Instructions in addition to the standard visitor visa requirements.
Country-specific instructions:
IMM 5855 sets out the additional supporting documents required for visitor visa applications processed through the Ankara visa office. The checklist includes specific instructions for financial evidence, employment or business documents, travel purpose, and additional supporting documents depending on the applicant’s circumstances.
Financial Support
IMM 5855 asks applicants from Turkey to provide clear evidence that they have enough funds to cover the cost of their visit to Canada.
Applicants should provide:
- bank statements or a bank book covering the previous six months;
- proof of employment income or other regular income;
- evidence of savings, investments, property, or other assets, where applicable;
- documents explaining the source of available funds when additional clarification is needed.
If another person is paying for the trip, the application should also include evidence of that person’s financial capacity. Where a host in Canada is providing financial support, supporting documents may include:
- the host’s employment letter;
- the host’s bank statements;
- the host’s most recent Notice of Assessment or T4;
- proof of the host’s legal status in Canada.
The financial documents should clearly show who is paying for the visit and that sufficient funds are available for the planned stay in Canada.
Employment and Occupation Documents
IMM 5855 asks applicants from Turkey to provide documents supporting their current employment, business activities, studies, or retirement status.
Depending on the applicant’s circumstances, supporting documents may include:
- an employment letter confirming the applicant’s position, salary, length of employment, and approved leave;
- recent proof of income;
- business registration, ownership, or other business documents for self-employed applicants;
- an enrolment letter and recent transcripts for students;
- proof of retirement income and savings for retired applicants.
These documents should clearly establish the applicant’s current occupation and ongoing economic or educational ties outside Canada.
Returning Students and Workers
IMM 5855 includes additional document requirements for applicants from Turkey who are returning to Canada to continue their studies or employment.
Returning students should provide:
- a recent letter of good standing from their Canadian educational institution;
- recent academic transcripts;
- a valid study permit, where applicable.
Returning workers should provide:
- a letter from their Canadian employer confirming continued employment;
- the expected duration of the employment;
- a valid work permit, where applicable.
These documents help confirm that the applicant is returning to Canada to resume an existing period of authorized study or employment.
Business Travel, Hosts & Other Requirements
IMM 5855 includes additional requirements for certain applicants depending on the purpose of travel and where they are applying from.
Business travellers should provide:
- a detailed invitation letter from the Canadian company or organization;
- a letter from the applicant’s employer explaining the purpose of the trip;
- information about the planned business activities, dates, and who will cover the travel expenses.
If the applicant is visiting a host in Canada, supporting documents may include:
- an invitation letter from the host;
- information explaining the relationship between the host and the applicant;
- proof of the host’s legal status in Canada.
Applicants may also need to provide:
- Schedule 1 if required based on their background information answers;
- proof of legal immigration status if applying from a country where they are not a citizen.
