South Sudan to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from South Sudan must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional forms, military records, and photo requirements that may be required for an application involving South Sudanese nationals.
For South Sudan applicants, the requirements include Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562), Details of Military Service (IMM 5546) for certain applicants with a senior government, military, defence, police, or National Service history, and copies of all military-card or booklet pages where applicable. Applicants living in South Sudan must also provide additional identity photographs.
Required Forms
Applicants from South Sudan must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]
- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.
- Details of Military Service [IMM 5546]
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service.
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
If IMM 5546 applies, submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages.
Identity Documents
Applicants living in South Sudan must submit 3 additional identity photos for the principal applicant and each family member included in the application.
This brings the total to 5 identity photos per person.
South Sudan to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from South Sudan may need to follow the Nairobi visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Nairobi Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5880.
For South Sudan applicants, IMM 5880 includes a Consent to Verification of Documents form.
Visa Office Instructions
Applicants from South Sudan should follow the Nairobi Visa Office Instructions together with the standard IRCC temporary resident visa requirements.

Financial and Occupational Evidence
Applicants who do not qualify under CAN+ should provide financial evidence such as bank statements or bank-book records covering the previous three months.
If another person is paying for the trip, supporting documents should be dated within the previous three months and may include a financial support letter, bank statements and evidence of the person’s employment or income.
Employees should provide an employer letter confirming their position, salary, length of employment and approved leave.
Self-employed applicants should provide business registration or licensing documents and evidence of the business’s financial activity.
Applicants who qualify under CAN+ do not need to provide proof of financial support.
Business, Conference and Official Visits
Applicants travelling to Canada for business should provide:
- business registration and financial records; and
- an official invitation from their Canadian business contacts confirming the purpose and duration of the visit, contact details and funding arrangements.
Applicants travelling for a conference or training should provide:
- an invitation or registration confirmation from the Canadian organizer;
- a current employer letter explaining the purpose and duration of the trip; and
- evidence showing who will pay the travel and related expenses.
Applicants travelling on official government business should provide a Mission Order or Verbal Note describing the purpose and duration of the visit and identifying the organization responsible for the expenses.
Family and Minor Documents
Applicants travelling with family members should provide marriage and birth certificates, as applicable, for family members applying for visas.
For a minor travelling alone or with only one parent, additional documents should include:
- the child’s birth certificate;
- a consent letter from the non-accompanying parent or parents; and
- a copy of the photo identification of the parent or parents providing consent.
Custody or guardianship documents should also be provided where applicable.
