Portugal to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Portugal must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify any additional local forms or documents required for an application involving Portuguese nationals.

For Portugal applicants, the principal applicant and all included family members aged 18 or older must complete Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562). No other special Portugal-specific document instructions are listed.

Portugal to Canada Study Permit

IRCC does not currently provide a separate Portugal-specific study permit checklist, visa office checklist, or local document instructions. Applicants from Portugal should therefore follow the standard IRCC study permit requirements and provide all supporting documents relevant to their studies, finances, and individual circumstances.

IRCC statistics show continued interest in Canadian education among Portuguese citizens. 320 study permits were issued in 2021, 280 in 2022, 260 in 2023, 210 in 2024, and 245 in 2025. An additional 75 study permits were recorded from January to June 2026.

These figures reflect the ongoing presence of Portuguese students in Canada’s international education system. Applicants should ensure that their study plans, financial resources, and supporting documents are clearly presented and meet all applicable IRCC requirements.
