Mozambique to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants from Mozambique do not have additional Mozambique-specific IRCC forms or special country-specific document requirements for spousal sponsorship. Applications should therefore follow the standard IRCC spousal sponsorship instructions and document checklist, with careful attention to complete identity and civil-status documents, required translations and clear evidence supporting the relationship.
Canada’s spousal sponsorship program allows eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner for permanent residence. IRCC assesses the sponsor’s eligibility, the genuineness of the relationship and the sponsored applicant’s admissibility before making a final decision.
According to the IRCC permanent residence statistics in your file, no Mozambican citizens were recorded as admitted to Canada under the Sponsored Spouse or Partner category in 2023, 2024, 2025 or from January to May 2026.
Mozambique to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Mozambique must follow the Pretoria visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5845, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Mozambique applicants, IMM 5845 focuses on passport and immigration-status documents, family documents where applicable, a one-page study plan, proof of current and previous studies, and detailed proof of funds and source-of-funds documents.
Required Forms
Mozambique study permit applicants must follow the Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

IMM 5845 is used alongside the standard study permit checklist and sets out the additional documents expected under the Pretoria visa office instructions.
Applicants planning to study in Canada for six months or longer are also required to undergo a medical examination.
If family members are accompanying the applicant, separate applications may be required depending on whether the accompanying person needs a work permit, study permit, or temporary resident visa.
Passport and Family Documents
Mozambique applicants must provide the passport and supporting identity documents listed by the Pretoria visa office.
Applicants must provide:
- a valid passport for each person who requires a temporary resident visa
- a photocopy of the passport bio-data page for the applicant and each accompanying dependent
The passport should be valid for at least six months from the intended date of travel to Canada. Applicants will be asked to submit their original passports once all requirements have been met.
If the applicant is a resident but not a citizen of the country where they live, they must provide proof of their residence, immigration, or visa status.
Where applicable, applicants must also provide:
- copies of birth certificates for accompanying minor children listing both parents
- a certified copy of the marriage certificate
- divorce or custody documents for accompanying children
- a notarized consent letter from the non-accompanying parent if a child is travelling with only one parent
Applicants under 18 must provide a notarized Custodianship Declaration Form — IMM 5646 unless they are accompanied by at least one parent.
Study Plan
Mozambique applicants must provide a one-page study plan.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the program where they were accepted
- the applicant’s overall educational goal
- why the applicant is not pursuing a similar program in their country of residence
- what research the applicant has done into studies in their country of residence or citizenship
- how the Canadian program will improve employment opportunities in the country of residence or citizenship
- what ties the applicant has to the country of residence or citizenship
If the applicant has been out of full-time education for more than two years, they should also provide a CV or résumé.
For a minor applicant, the study plan should explain why they want to study in Canada and provide information about the immigration status of their parents or guardians in their current country of residence.
Student Records
Mozambique applicants must provide proof of their current and previous studies.
Relevant documents may include:
- transcripts from the educational institution the applicant is currently attending
- copies of high school certificates or diplomas
- documents relating to any post-secondary studies
Applicants must also provide a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution in Canada showing the tuition fees, living expenses, duration of studies, course start date, and details of any work placement or co-op program where applicable.
If the acceptance is conditional, the applicant must provide evidence that the conditions have been met.
Financial Documents
Mozambique study permit applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
Applicants must provide supporting documents showing a reliable source of available funds that can be converted to Canadian dollars.
Relevant documents may include:
- a letter of undertaking from a parent or sponsor
- bank statements from the parent or sponsor covering the previous three to six months and showing income and the required funds
- an official scholarship or financial award letter
- investments or other acceptable financial assets
Property deeds and vehicle ownership are not accepted as proof of available funds under IMM 5845.
If the applicant has received a scholarship or tuition has already been paid, they must provide a receipt from the Canadian educational institution confirming the payment or funding.
If a third person is sponsoring the applicant, the sponsor must provide:
- bank statements and employment records
- a letter with current contact information explaining why they are financing the applicant’s studies
- proof of the relationship if the sponsor is a relative
If the third-party sponsor is in Canada, they must also provide:
- the sponsor’s name, address, telephone number, and email address
- proof of legal status in Canada
- proof of employment, including years of service and salary
- a bank statement
- a copy of the summary page of the most recent Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment
Mozambique to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Mozambique must follow the Pretoria visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5971, which is used together with the standard Canada visitor visa requirements.
For Mozambique applicants, IMM 5971 focuses on passport and travel-history documents, immigration status where applicable, the purpose of the proposed visit, proof of funds, employment or business documents, invitation documents where applicable, proof of current studies, and marriage and birth certificates for family members applying for a visa.
Required Forms and Passport Documents
Mozambique visitor visa applicants must follow the Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for temporary resident visas.
Country-specific checklist and locally listed requirements include:
- Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5971
- signed Consent to Verification of Documents form
- Schedule 1: Application for Temporary Residence — IMM 5257 SCH1, only if the applicant answered “yes” to any background information questions on the application form
Applicants must provide a valid passport for each person applying.
The passport must:
- be valid for at least six months from the date of travel to Canada
- have at least two blank pages
Applicants must also provide copies of cancelled or expired passports as evidence of previous travel.
If the applicant does not reside in their country of citizenship, they must provide a copy of their work permit or temporary stay permit.
Documents that are not in English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation.
Purpose of Travel and Financial Documents
Mozambique applicants must provide documents explaining the purpose and arrangements of their proposed visit to Canada.
Relevant documents may include:
- details of the itinerary in Canada
- provisional airline or hotel bookings
- a letter of invitation from the person or business being visited
- conference registration
- a letter from the applicant’s employer, where applicable
Applicants must also provide proof of sufficient financial support to cover the expenses for the duration of their visit.
Relevant documents may include:
- an employment letter
- pay slips
- proof of pension
- business registration documents
- investments
- other documents showing sufficient available funds
If someone else is paying for the trip, the applicant must provide:
- a signed letter from the person paying
- a photocopy of that person’s passport or other official photo identification
- supporting documents showing that the person has sufficient funds
- an explanation of how that person is related to the applicant
These third-party financial documents must be dated within three months of the date the application is submitted.
Applicants should also provide relevant family, financial, employment or property documents that help demonstrate their ties to their country of residence.
Employment and Business Documents
Employed Mozambique applicants must provide a letter from their employer stating:
- employment status
- length of service
- position
- salary and allowances
- authorization for leave covering the proposed stay in Canada
- the date the applicant is expected to return to work
If the applicant is travelling for business, the employer letter should also explain the purpose of the trip and provide the names and addresses of the companies they will visit.
Self-employed applicants should provide evidence of their business, such as:
- business registration
- business licence
- financial documents
Business travellers must also provide:
- business registration
- relevant financial documents, such as income tax statements, accounting documents, year-end financial reports or bank statements
- an official invitation from their Canadian business contacts showing the required contact information, purpose and length of the trip, and funding arrangements
Applicants travelling for a conference, training or official visit must provide the applicable employer or government documents, Canadian invitation, conference registration where applicable, and proof of financial support for the trip.
Visiting Family or Friends
Mozambique applicants visiting a friend or relative in Canada must provide a letter of invitation.
The host in Canada may also provide supporting documents, including:
- proof of their immigration status in Canada, such as a Permanent Resident Card, Canadian passport, or citizenship document
- proof of the relationship between the host and the applicant
These additional host documents may be provided to support the visitor visa application.
Students and Family Documents
Applicants who are currently studying must provide:
- a current letter from the educational institution they attend
- a current transcript from that institution
Mozambique applicants must also provide marriage certificates and birth certificates for each family member applying for a visitor visa, where applicable.
These requirements apply according to the applicant’s individual circumstances.
