Mauritius to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
\Applicants from Mauritius do not have additional Mauritius-specific IRCC forms or special country-specific document requirements for spousal sponsorship. Applications should therefore follow the standard IRCC spousal sponsorship instructions and document checklist, with careful attention to complete identity and civil-status documents, required translations and clear evidence supporting the relationship.
Canada’s spousal sponsorship program allows eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner for permanent residence. IRCC assesses the sponsor’s eligibility, the genuineness of the relationship and the sponsored applicant’s admissibility before making a final decision.
IRCC permanent residence statistics show that 240 Mauritian citizens were admitted to Canada as sponsored spouses or partners from 2023 through May 2026. This included 55 admissions in 2023, 80 in 2024, 80 in 2025 and 25 from January to May 2026.
Mauritius to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Mauritius must follow the Pretoria visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5845, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Mauritius applicants, IMM 5845 focuses on passport and legal status documents, a one-page study plan, student records, proof and sources of funds, third-party sponsorship, scholarship or tuition-payment evidence, and police clearance certificates where applicable.

Mauritius study permit applicants must follow the Pretoria Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

Passport Documents
Mauritius study permit applicants must provide passport documents as listed by the Pretoria visa office.
Required passport documents include:
- a valid passport for each person requiring a temporary resident visa
- a photocopy of the bio-data page of the applicant’s passport
- a photocopy of the bio-data page for each accompanying dependant, if applicable
The passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of travel to Canada.
Applicants will be asked to submit original passports once all requirements have been met.
Legal Status
Applicants must provide proof of residence, immigration, or visa status if they are residents but not citizens of their country of residence.
This requirement applies when the applicant is living in a country where they are not a citizen.
The document should show the applicant’s legal status in the country where they are residing.
Student Records
Applicants from Mauritius must provide documents showing their current and previous studies.
Required student records may include:
- transcripts from the educational institution the applicant is attending
- copies of high school certificates or diplomas
- records from any post-secondary studies
Applicants must also provide a one-page study plan.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the accepted program
- the applicant’s overall educational goal
- why the applicant is not pursuing a similar program in the country of residence
- what research the applicant has done into studies in the country of residence or citizenship
- how the program will improve employment opportunities in the country of residence or citizenship
- what ties the applicant has to the country of residence or citizenship
If the applicant has been out of full-time education for more than two years, they must provide a curriculum vitae or resumé.
Financial Documents
Mauritius study permit applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
Required financial documents include:
- supporting documents showing a reliable source of available funds that can be converted to Canadian dollars
- a letter of undertaking and bank statements from a parent or sponsor covering the past three to six months
- official scholarship or financial award letters, if applicable
- investment documents, if applicable
Deed documents and property or vehicle ownership documents are not accepted as proof of funds.
If the applicant has received a scholarship or already paid tuition, they must provide a receipt from the educational institution in Canada confirming the payment or funding.
If a third person is sponsoring the studies, that person must provide supporting documents such as:
- bank statements
- employment records
- a letter with current contact information explaining why they will finance the studies
- proof of relationship to the applicant, if the sponsor is a relative
If the third-party sponsor is in Canada, the sponsor’s letter must include their name, address, telephone number, and email address.
The sponsor must also provide:
- proof of legal residence in Canada
- proof of employment, including years of service and salary
- a bank statement
- a copy of the summary page of the most recent Canada Revenue Agency notice of assessment
Mauritius citizens or residents aged 23 or older must also provide original police clearance certificates if their stay in Canada will exceed six months. The certificates must have been issued within the six months before the application is submitted.
Mauritius to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Mauritius may need to follow the Pretoria visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Pretoria Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5971.
For Mauritius applicants, IMM 5971 includes a Consent to Verification of Documents form.
Visa Office Instructions
Applicants from Mauritius should follow the Pretoria Visa Office Instructions together with the standard IRCC temporary resident visa requirements.

Financial and Occupational Evidence
Applicants who do not qualify under CAN+ should provide evidence that they have sufficient funds for the visit.
Relevant supporting documents may include:
- an employment letter;
- pay slips covering the previous three months;
- proof of pension income;
- business registration documents; and
- evidence of investments or other available funds.
If another person is paying for the trip, the application should include a signed support letter, proof of that person’s identity and finances, an explanation of their relationship to the applicant, and details of the expenses they will cover.
Employed applicants should provide a letter confirming their position, salary, length of employment, approved leave and expected return-to-work date.
Self-employed applicants should provide business registration or licensing documents and evidence of the business’s financial activity.
Business, Conference and Official Visits
Applicants travelling to Canada for business should provide:
- business registration and financial records; and
- an official invitation from their Canadian business contacts confirming the purpose and duration of the visit, contact details and funding arrangements.
Applicants travelling for a conference or training should provide:
- an invitation or registration confirmation from the Canadian organizer;
- a current employer letter explaining the purpose and duration of the trip; and
- evidence showing who will pay the travel and related expenses.
Applicants travelling on official government business should provide a Mission Order or Verbal Note describing the purpose and duration of the visit and identifying the organization responsible for the expenses.
