Malta to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants from Malta do not have additional Malta-specific IRCC forms or special country-specific document requirements for spousal sponsorship. Applications should therefore follow the standard IRCC spousal sponsorship instructions and document checklist, with careful attention to complete identity and civil-status documents, required translations and clear evidence supporting the relationship.
Canada’s spousal sponsorship program allows eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner for permanent residence. IRCC assesses the sponsor’s eligibility, the genuineness of the relationship and the sponsored applicant’s admissibility before making a final decision.
According to the IRCC permanent residence statistics in your file, no Maltese citizens were recorded as admitted to Canada under the Sponsored Spouse or Partner category in 2023, 2024, 2025 or from January to May 2026.
Malta to Canada Study Permit
IRCC does not currently provide a separate Malta-specific study permit checklist, visa office checklist, or local document instructions. Applicants from Malta should therefore follow the standard IRCC study permit requirements and provide all supporting documents relevant to their studies, finances, and individual circumstances.
IRCC statistics show continued interest in Canadian education among Maltese citizens. 5 study permits were issued in 2021, 10 in 2022, 10 in 2023, and 5 in 2024. The file does not report a study permit figure for 2025 or for January to June 2026.
These figures reflect the ongoing presence of Maltese students in Canada’s international education system. Applicants should ensure that their study plans, financial resources, and supporting documents are clearly presented and meet all applicable IRCC requirements.
Malta to Canada Visitor Visa
Maltese citizens travelling to Canada with a valid Maltese passport generally do not need a Canadian visitor visa. When travelling to or transiting through Canada by air, they normally need an electronic travel authorization (eTA).
In the IRCC visitor visa statistics provided, Malta is reported as fewer than 5 visitor visas in 2023, fewer than 5 in 2024, and fewer than 5 in 2025, with fewer than 5 also recorded from January to June 2026. These figures may include applicants residing in or applying from Malta who were not travelling on a visa-exempt Maltese passport.
Travel requirements depend on citizenship, passport type, and method of travel. Maltese citizens entering Canada by land or sea generally do not need an eTA, but they must carry a valid passport and meet Canada’s entry requirements.
