While there are no unique forms for Malawi, accuracy is key.

Travel History (IMM 5562): We strongly recommend completing this form for the principal applicant and all family members aged 18+.

Do not submit unofficial church or hospital records.

  • Requirement: Birth, Marriage, and Death certificates must be issued by the Registrar General’s Department.
  • Marriage Registration: If you had a customary or traditional marriage, it must be registered with the Registrar General to be accepted by IRCC. You must submit the official government certificate, not just a letter from a village headman.
  • Requirement: Applicants aged 18+ must provide a Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Issuing Authority: This is issued by the Malawi Police Service Headquarters in Lilongwe (Criminal Investigation Department).
  • Process: You generally need to provide a set of fingerprints taken at a local police station.

No Translations Needed: Since English is the official language of Malawi, your civil documents (Birth, Marriage, Police Certs) generally do not require translation. This saves you time and money compared to other regions.

However, if any document is not in English or French, include:

  • the original document (or required certified copy), plus
  • a certified translation

Make sure names, dates, and document details match exactly between the original and the translation.
