Macau to Canada Spousal Sponsorship

Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Macau SAR must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions clarify whether additional local forms are needed and set out identity, civil-status, and document-format requirements that may apply.

For Macau SAR applicants, no extra country-specific forms are required. Certain applicants must provide a notarized medical certificate of birth, household registry records, proof of marital status for children aged 16 or older, National ID and Citizenship Certificate copies, passport-page copies, and mailing address labels in Chinese characters where applicable.

Applicants from Macau SAR must follow the IRCC country-specific spousal sponsorship instructions for Macau SAR.

The Macau SAR instructions confirm that there are no extra country-specific forms for residents of Macau SAR.

The country-specific document instructions include requirements for family records, identity documents, passport copies, and mailing address details where they apply.

People born in the People’s Republic of China after 1996 must submit a notarized copy of the medical certificate of birth issued by the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China.

If this document cannot be obtained, applicants must include an explanation.

If the principal applicant holds a Macau SAR passport, the principal applicant and family members included in the application must provide copies of:

  • the household registry, or hukou
  • proof of marital status for children 16 years old or older

If the principal applicant holds a Macau SAR passport, the principal applicant and family members included in the application must also provide:

  • a copy of the National ID card
  • a copy of the Citizenship Certificate
  • photocopies of the first 4 pages of each passport

The passport copies must include the page showing passport validity.

If the applicant lives in Macau SAR, or in another jurisdiction where Chinese characters are used for mail delivery, they must provide their mailing address in:

  • Chinese characters
  • Pinyin or English

The address must include the postal code. The mailing address must be either:

  • the residential address of a person
  • the business address of a firm

A post office box number is not accepted.

Applicants must also include 8 address labels with the mailing address written in Chinese characters.

Macau to Canada Study Permit

IRCC does not currently provide a separate Macau-specific study permit checklist, visa office checklist, or local document instructions. Applicants from Macau should therefore follow the standard IRCC study permit requirements and provide all supporting documents relevant to their studies, finances, and individual circumstances.

IRCC statistics show continued interest in Canadian education among residents of Macau. 115 study permits were issued in 2021, 135 in 2022, 135 in 2023, 90 in 2024, and 85 in 2025. An additional 30 study permits were recorded from January to June 2026.

These figures reflect the ongoing presence of students from Macau in Canada’s international education system. Applicants should ensure that their study plans, financial resources, and supporting documents are clearly presented and meet all applicable IRCC requirements.

Macau to Canada Visitor Visa

IRCC does not provide a IRCC does not provide a separate document checklist for Canadian visitor visa applicants from Macau. Applicants should therefore follow the standard IRCC visitor visa requirements and submit the supporting documents requested through their online application.

IRCC recorded 695 visitor visas for Macau in 2023, 875 in 2024, and 635 in 2025, followed by 315 from January to June 2026.

A Canadian visitor visa can allow eligible travellers from Macau to visit Canada temporarily for purposes such as tourism, visiting family or friends, or certain business activities. The supporting documents required will depend on the applicant’s individual circumstances, purpose of travel, financial situation, and plans for their temporary stay in Canada.
