Kuwait to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Kuwait must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional forms, military records, and civil-status documents that may be required for an application involving Kuwaiti nationals.
For Kuwait applicants, the requirements include Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562), Details of Military Service (IMM 5546) for certain applicants with a senior government, military, defence, police, or National Service history, and copies of all military-card or booklet pages where applicable. Applicants divorced in Kuwait must also provide the specified divorce documents.
Required IMM
Applicants from Kuwait must follow the IRCC country-specific spousal sponsorship instructions for Kuwait.
Kuwait-specific additional forms include:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562), digital form
- Details of Military Service (IMM 5546), PDF form

Required Forms
The principal applicant and all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older must complete Supplementary Information – Your Travels (IMM 5562).
Details of Military Service (IMM 5546) must be completed for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service
Military Documents
If the military service requirement applies, applicants must submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet.
This includes:
- pages with entries
- blank pages
Divorce Documents
If an applicant got a divorce in Kuwait, they must submit a copy of the document that applies to their situation:
- final irrevocable divorce
- final divorce judgment
Kuwait to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Kuwait must follow the Abu Dhabi visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5814, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Kuwait applicants, IMM 5814 focuses on passport and residence documents, proof and sources of funds, third-party financial support, scholarship or award evidence, tuition-payment proof, and a one-page study plan.
Required Forms
Kuwait study permit applicants must follow the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

Passport Documents
Kuwait study permit applicants must provide passport documents as listed by the Abu Dhabi visa office.
Each person travelling, including children, must have their own passport.
The passport must have:
- at least one blank page
- validity for at least one month from the date the applicant intends to leave Canada
If the applicant does not want to submit the original passport for the full processing period, they must provide a photocopy of the complete passport pages.
Residence Visa
Applicants must provide a copy of their most recent Gulf residence visa if it is not affixed to their valid passport.
This requirement applies where the applicant’s Gulf residence visa is separate from the passport being submitted with the application.
Financial Documents
Kuwait study permit applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
Applicants must also provide supporting documents showing a reliable source of funds that can be converted to Canadian dollars.
Relevant financial documents may include:
- a letter of undertaking and financial documents from a parent or sponsor
- an official scholarship or financial award letter
- investments
- income from rental properties
- bank statements covering several months
If tuition has already been paid, the applicant must provide proof of payment.
If the applicant receives a scholarship or award related to the study program, they must include the related scholarship or award documents.
If someone other than the applicant’s parents is providing financial support, the applicant must include:
- details of how the studies will be funded
- the applicant’s relationship to the person or institution providing the funding
- a detailed explanation of why that person or institution is providing financial support
- evidence of the sponsor’s financial ability to fund the education
Study Plan
Kuwait applicants must provide a one-page study plan.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the accepted program
- the applicant’s overall educational goal
- why the applicant is not pursuing a similar program in the country of residence or citizenship
- what research the applicant has done into studies in the country of residence or citizenship
- how the program will improve employment opportunities in the country of residence or citizenship
- what ties the applicant has to the country of residence or citizenship
The study plan should also include details of the applicant’s education history, including dates, school name and address, course taken, qualification, degree, or certificate awarded.
Kuwait to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Kuwait may need to follow the Abu Dhabi visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5853.
For Kuwait applicants, IMM 5853 includes proof of the most recent Gulf residence visa where it is not attached to the applicant’s valid passport.
Visa Office Instructions
Kuwait visitor visa applicants may need to follow the Abu Dhabi Visa Office Instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa requirements.
Relevant visa office instructions:
IMM 5853 includes additional instructions concerning Gulf residence visas, financial support, CAN+ applicants, business travel and self-employed applicants.
Applicants should provide a copy of their most recent Gulf residence visa if it is not attached to their current valid passport.
Financial Support and CAN+
Applicants should provide financial documents showing that they can pay for their visit to Canada.
Financial evidence may include:
- bank statements covering the previous three months;
- recent pay slips or proof of other income; and
- documents showing savings, investments, property or other assets.
If another person is paying for the visit, the application should include:
- a signed letter confirming the financial support;
- evidence that the person has sufficient funds;
- an explanation of the relationship between the applicant and the person providing support; and
- details of the expenses that will be covered.
The financial support documents should be dated within three months of the application.
Applicants who qualify under CAN+ may not need to provide financial evidence when they submit proof of qualifying previous travel to Canada or a valid United States non-immigrant visa.
Business and Self-Employment Documents
Business visitors should provide:
- a letter from their employer explaining the purpose and expected duration of the trip;
- details of the Canadian company or organization they plan to visit;
- confirmation of who will pay the travel expenses; and
- an invitation letter from the Canadian business or organization describing the planned activities.
Self-employed applicants and business owners should provide:
- business registration or licensing documents;
- recent business financial records;
- evidence of their role in the business; and
- documents showing the nature and continuing operation of the business.
