Ivory Coast to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Ivory Coast must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional local forms and supporting documents that may be required for an application involving Ivorian nationals.
For Ivory Coast applicants, the country-specific requirements include additional IMM forms, military service records where applicable, and special supporting documents when a child’s birth certificate was not issued at the time of birth.
Country-Specific Documents
Applicants from Ivory Coast must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]
- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.

- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service.

If IMM 5546 applies, submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages.
Police Certificates (PCC)
If a child’s birth certificate issued by Ivory Coast was not issued at the time of birth, submit copies of:
- the supplementary judgment
- another official document naming the parents
- school documents listing the parents, if available
- the household registry
If school documents listing the parents cannot be obtained, provide an explanation.
Ivory Coast to Canada Express Entry
Ivory Coast is a notable source country for permanent residence through Canada’s Express Entry system. From 2021 to the first quarter of 2026, IRCC data shows 4,525 admissions of permanent residents under Express Entry for Ivory Coast, reflecting continued interest among skilled workers moving from Ivory Coast to Canada.
For applicants in Ivory Coast, Express Entry success depends on a complete and well-supported profile. Candidates may need competitive language test results, an Educational Credential Assessment for foreign education, accurate skilled work experience records, and proof of funds where required. French-language ability can be an important advantage, especially where it supports CRS points or French-language category-based opportunities.
An Ivory Coast-focused Express Entry strategy should connect the applicant’s education, occupation, work history, French and English language results, and possible provincial nomination options. Ivory Coast to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Ivory Coast must follow the Dakar visa office instructions in addition to the standard study permit checklist. These instructions are listed in the Dakar Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5826.
For Ivory Coast applicants, IMM 5826 includes instructions on academic records, application timing, the study plan, financial documents, and sponsor evidence.
Required Forms
Ivory Coast study permit applicants must follow the Dakar Visa Office Additional Document Checklist in addition to IRCC’s standard study permit requirements.

IMM 5826 provides additional document instructions for applicants from Ivory Coast. It includes specific guidance on academic records, the study plan, proof of financial support, sponsor documentation, and recommended application timing. These requirements supplement the standard study permit checklist and help ensure that supporting documents are prepared in accordance with the Dakar visa office instructions.
Intake Timing
IMM 5826 provides recommended application submission dates based on the intended Canadian academic intake. These are specific to the Dakar visa office checklist and should not be treated as general study permit deadlines for all applicants.
For applicants from Ivory Coast, the checklist recommends submitting the study permit application before:
- June 15 for the fall session, typically beginning in September;
- October 15 for the winter session, typically beginning in January;
- February 15 for the summer session, typically beginning in May.
These dates are recommended filing timelines only. They do not guarantee that IRCC will make a decision before classes begin, but they are intended to help applicants submit early enough for their planned study intake.
Student Records
IMM 5826 requires Ivory Coast applicants to provide supporting documents for any current or previous post-secondary studies.
Applicants should include:
- copies of transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended;
- copies of certificates, diplomas, or degrees obtained from each post-secondary institution attended.
This requirement is specific to post-secondary academic records under the Dakar visa office instructions. General education history, admission requirements, and the letter of acceptance should be addressed separately under the standard study permit requirements.
Study Plan
IMM 5826 requires Ivory Coast study permit applicants to provide a one-page study plan addressing specific points identified by the Dakar visa office.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the program for which they have been accepted;
- the applicant’s overall educational goals;
- why a similar program is not being pursued in Ivory Coast or the applicant’s country of residence;
- what research the applicant has conducted into available study options in Ivory Coast or their country of citizenship;
- how the Canadian program may improve future employment opportunities in Ivory Coast or the applicant’s country of residence or citizenship;
- what ties the applicant has to Ivory Coast or their country of residence or citizenship.
Applicants who have been out of full-time education for more than two years should also include a CV or resumé with their application.
Financial Evidence
Proof of funds is a standard study permit requirement, but IMM 5826 includes additional financial-document instructions for Ivory Coast applicants applying under the Dakar visa office checklist.
Applicants should provide:
- evidence of sufficient funds to cover the average cost of one year of study in Canada;
- bank statements covering at least four months;
- documents explaining the source of any large or recent deposits;
- additional evidence showing a stable and reliable source of funds;
- a letter of financial undertaking and supporting financial documents from a parent or sponsor, if applicable.
A key Dakar checklist requirement is demonstrating the source of funds. If an account contains lump-sum or recent deposits, applicants should include documents showing where those funds came from.
If a third party is financing the applicant’s studies, the sponsor package should include:
- the sponsor’s financial documents, such as bank statements and employment records;
- evidence showing the source of the sponsor’s funds;
- a letter explaining why the sponsor is financing the applicant’s studies;
- details about the sponsor’s relationship to the applicant, number of dependants, and amount of financial support;
- proof of the relationship, if the sponsor is a relative;
- proof of legal status in Canada, if the sponsor is in Canada;
- the summary page of the sponsor’s most recent Canada Revenue Agency income tax statement, if applicable;
- a copy of the sponsor’s photo identification.
Applicants receiving a scholarship, award, or other financial assistance should also provide official documentation confirming the amount, duration, and conditions of the funding.
Ivory Coast to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Côte d’Ivoire may need to follow the Dakar visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Dakar Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5865.
For Côte d’Ivoire applicants, IMM 5865 includes an urgent submission option for official travel through the Canadian diplomatic mission in Côte d’Ivoire.
Visa Office Instructions and Official Travel
Applicants from Côte d’Ivoire should follow the Dakar Visa Office Instructions together with the standard IRCC temporary resident visa requirements.
Relevant visa office instruction:
Applicants travelling on diplomatic, official or service passports, or representing Côte d’Ivoire in an official capacity, should provide two recent photographs, their original passport and a copy of its identification pages, a Note Verbale, and an invitation letter or travel order where applicable. Qualifying official travellers may be exempt from the application fee.
For urgent official travel, applicants may submit their application through the Canadian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire. IMM 5865 states that applications submitted through this route may be processed within two to five working days.
Financial and Occupational Evidence
Applicants paying for their own trip should provide:
- original personal bank statements covering the previous six months; and
- pay slips covering the previous six months.
Business owners should also provide business registration certificates, tax returns, qualification certificates, business financial statements and original commercial bank statements covering the previous six months.
If another person is paying for the trip, that person may provide a financial support letter, recent bank statements, employment and salary evidence, term deposit statements and a copy of their national identity card or passport.
Employees should provide an employer letter dated no more than two months before the application. It should confirm their occupation, salary and allowances, years of service and approved leave.
Entrepreneurs and self-employed applicants should provide financial statements for the previous two years, letters patent and a business licence.
Students should provide a recent enrolment letter and academic transcripts.
Business and Event Travel
Applicants travelling to Canada for business should provide:
- financial and business records, such as financial statements, letters patent, a business licence, transaction reports or a prospectus;
- evidence of their planned business activities and contacts in Canada;
- proof of their relationship with the Canadian businesses they intend to visit;
- an invitation from their Canadian business contacts stating the purpose and duration of the trip and providing the contact person’s name, business address and telephone number;
- an employer letter confirming the purpose of the trip, the applicant’s position and salary, approved leave and who will pay the travel costs;
- a travel itinerary; and
- proof of funds from the person or organization paying for the trip.
Applicants travelling for a seminar, trade show or conference should provide:
- an invitation from the Canadian organization;
- registration and hotel confirmation;
- written confirmation from the organization paying the expenses; and
- a signed and dated employer letter confirming the purpose and duration of the trip and the applicant’s employment details.
Returning Students and Minors
Students returning to Canada to continue their studies should provide:
- a passport valid for the remaining duration of their studies;
- a valid Canadian study permit;
- proof of registration for the upcoming session;
- transcripts from completed sessions;
- a flight ticket or reservation;
- a valid Certificat d’acceptation du Québec, where applicable; and
- Canadian bank statements covering the previous 12 months.
Children should have their own passports. A school letter confirming vacation dates may also be required.
Minors under 18 travelling with one parent, without their parents or with another adult should provide, as applicable:
- notarized parental authorization or custody documents;
- the child’s birth certificate and the parents’ birth certificates;
- proof of registration for the next school year;
- the child’s most recent academic transcript; and
- a notarized letter from the Canadian guardian who will receive the child when travelling alone or with another adult.
CAN+ Eligibility
Legal residents of Côte d’Ivoire may qualify for the CAN+ simplified application process if they:
- were issued a multiple-entry temporary resident visa to Canada or the United States within the previous five years; and
- have no immigration infractions in any country.
Qualifying applicants should follow the CAN+ document checklist in IMM 5865. CAN+ applies to temporary resident visa applications and does not apply to study permits, work permits or Super Visa applications.
