Iraq to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Iraq must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional local forms, identity documents, and certified civil records that may be required for an application involving Iraqi nationals.
For Iraq applicants, the country-specific requirements include additional IMM forms, military service records where applicable, certified copies of civil documents, National ID and Citizenship Certificate copies, and passport-page copies for Iraqi passport holders.
Country-Specific Documents
Applicants from Iraq must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]
- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.
- Details of Military Service [IMM 5546]
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service.

If IMM 5546 applies, submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages.
Police Certificates (PCC)
All civil documents submitted for Iraq must be certified copies.
Translation Requirements
If the applicant holds an Iraqi passport, the applicant and all family members included in the application must provide:
- a copy of the National ID card
- a copy of the Citizenship Certificate
- photocopies of the first 4 pages of each passport, including the page showing passport validity.
Iraq to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Iraq must follow the Amman visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Amman Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5817, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Iraq applicants, IMM 5817 focuses on academic records, recent language test results, a one-page personal statement, financial documents, sponsor or host support, work history, and travel history.
Required Forms
Iraq study permit applicants must follow the Amman Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.

IMM 5817 is used alongside the standard study permit checklist. It does not replace the general study permit requirements.
Student Records
Iraq study permit applicants should provide documents demonstrating their academic background, language proficiency and purpose of study.
Applicants should include:
- transcripts and graduation certificates from all institutions they previously attended;
- language test results obtained within the previous two years, such as CELPIP, PTE, IELTS, TOEFL, TCF, TEF, DALF or DELF; and
- a one-page personal statement explaining their goals and how the proposed study plan aligns with their academic background and future career plans.
Applicants who used a translator, software or artificial intelligence to prepare the personal statement should clearly disclose this in the application.
Financial Evidence
Iraq study permit applicants should provide documents showing that sufficient funds are available to cover their study and living expenses.
Applicants should include bank statements for the previous six months, either in their own name or in the name of their financial sponsor.
When the studies are funded by someone outside Canada, the application should include:
- a letter explaining the financial support; and
- evidence of the supporter’s financial capacity, such as an employment letter, bank statements or salary slips.
When the studies are funded by a host in Canada, the application should include:
- a letter explaining the financial support;
- proof of the host’s income, such as an employment letter, bank statements, a Notice of Assessment or T4 slips; and
- proof of the host’s status in Canada, such as Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or a valid temporary permit.
Applicants should also include any scholarship or financial-support letter, where applicable.
Work and Travel
Iraq study permit applicants who have worked within the previous three years should provide documents confirming their employment or self-employment history.
Employed applicants should include detailed employment letters showing:
- the period of employment;
- the position held;
- the salary; and
- the applicant’s job responsibilities.
Self-employed applicants should provide supporting business records, which may include:
- income statements;
- proof of business ownership or operation;
- a trade licence;
- a description of the business activities;
- contracts; or
- similar business documents.
Applicants who have travelled outside their country of residence should also provide scanned copies of all pages of their current passport and a complete, detailed travel history.
Iraq to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Iraq may need to follow the Amman visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Amman Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5856.
For Iraq applicants, IMM 5856 includes a Travel History Information Form that must be completed by all applicants.

Iraq visitor visa applicants may need to follow the Amman Visa Office Instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa requirements.

Travel History Information Form
All applicants must complete the Travel History Information Form included in IMM 5856.
The form asks applicants to provide:
- the number of passports they have held, including their current passport;
- whether they hold citizenship in another country;
- the number of passports held for that other country, where applicable; and
- every country they have visited or lived in during the previous 10 years.
For each period of travel or residence, applicants must provide the dates, purpose, city and country.
The applicant must sign and date the declaration. For an applicant under 18, the form may be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
