Sponsor spouse or partner from Ghana to Canada

Ghana is a straightforward country in terms of IRCC forms — there are no additional questionnaires beyond the standard requirements. However, the challenge with Ghanaian applications comes from birth certificates, parentage verification, and civil records, which IRCC examines very carefully.

With accurate documentation and well-organized evidence, applicants can move through the sponsorship process smoothly and confidently. If at any point you feel unsure about a document or a specific step, our consultants are available to guide you and help avoid costly delays. From 2016 to 2024, our Canadian immigration consultants have supported 402 clients from Ghana in navigating Canada’s immigration pathways with care and precision. You can book a consultation for personalized guidance or review our Immigration Consultant Fees to compare packages and choose the level of support that fits your needs. For more information on eligibility, timelines, and requirements, visit our Spousal Sponsorship Program page and learn why families trust our Top-Rated Canadian Immigration Consultants.

While Ghana does not require unique local forms, two IRCC forms apply when relevant:

✓ IMM 5562 — Travel History (digital)

Required for all applicants and dependants 18+.

✓ IMM 5546 — Military Service Form

Only required if the applicant has served in the military, police, security forces, or held a senior government role.
Must include all pages of the military booklet — even blank ones.

Translations must be done by a certified translator, with the original document included.

  • In Ghana, many children receive their birth certificates years after birth, which IRCC considers a “delayed registration.”
If this is your situation, IRCC requires multiple supporting documents, not just the certificate itself.

    You must provide:

    ✓ The Child’s Birth Certificate

If issued long after birth, it must be supported by the following:

    ✓ Supplementary Judgment

    A court-issued confirmation of parentage.

    ✓ Additional Parentage Evidence

IRCC allows any of the following:

    • School records listing the parents
    • Household registry entries
    • Another government-issued document naming the parents

If any item is unavailable, provide a clear written explanation, or IRCC may delay or refuse the application.
