Egypt to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Egypt must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional forms, certified civil records, and supporting documents that may be required for an application involving Egyptian nationals.
For Egypt applicants, the requirements include IMM 5562 for travel history, IMM 5546 for certain applicants with a senior government, military, defence, police, or National Service history, certified official and civil documents, and non-computerized Egyptian marriage certificates. Certain applicants must also provide full copies of passports used during the previous five years and military card or booklet copies where applicable.
Required Forms
Applicants from Egypt must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]
- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.
- Details of Military Service [IMM 5546]
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service.
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
If IMM 5546 applies, submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages.
Civil Documents
Official and civil documents issued in Egypt must be certified copies.
Marriage certificates issued in Egypt must be non-computerized.
Passport History
If the principal applicant holds an Egyptian passport or travel document, they must provide a full copy of every passport used in the last 5 years.
Egypt to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Egypt must follow the Cairo visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Cairo Visa Office Additional Document Checklist, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Egypt applicants, the local requirements focus on current and previous passports, legal status documents where applicable, proof of funds, scholarship or financial award letters, tuition-payment proof, and a one-page study plan.

Passport Documents
Egypt study permit applicants must provide passport documents as listed by the Cairo visa office.
Required passport documents include:
- a valid passport for each person requiring a temporary resident visa
- all cancelled or expired passports, if applicable
The Cairo visa office instructions state that the passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of travel to Canada.
Legal Status
Applicants must provide proof of immigration status if they do not live in their country of citizenship.
Required documents may include:
- work permit
- temporary stay permit
This requirement applies only when the applicant is applying from a country where they are not a citizen.
Financial Documents
Applicants from Egypt must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
The Cairo visa office instructions require documents showing a reliable source of funds that can be converted to Canadian dollars.
Relevant financial documents may include:
- a letter of undertaking and financial documents from a parent or sponsor
- an official scholarship or financial award letter
- investments
- income from rental properties
- bank statements covering several months
If tuition has already been paid, the applicant must provide proof of payment.
Study Plan
Egypt applicants must provide a one-page study plan.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the accepted program
- the applicant’s overall educational goal
- why the applicant is not pursuing a similar program in the country of residence
- what research the applicant has done into studies in the country of residence or citizenship
- how the program will improve employment opportunities in the country of residence or citizenship
- what ties the applicant has to the country of residence or citizenship
If the applicant has been out of full-time education for more than two years, they must provide a curriculum vitae or resumé.
Egypt to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Egypt may need to follow the Cairo visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Cairo Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5863.
For Egypt applicants, IMM 5863 includes ta’ameenat egtema’eia for business owners, letters for religious workers from the Egyptian Ministry of Endowment or an Egyptian church, travel authorization procedures for minors, and health insurance for applicants aged 75 or older.
Visa Office Instructions
Applicants from Egypt should follow the Cairo Visa Office Instructions together with the standard IRCC temporary resident visa requirements.

IMM 5863 contains additional instructions for applicants from Egypt, including requirements for business owners, religious workers, minors travelling alone and applicants aged 75 or older.
Business Owner Records
Applicants who own a company or business should provide original business records, including:
- the commercial registration;
- the tax certificate;
- the social insurance document known as ta’ameenat egtema’eia;
- corporate bank statements covering at least the previous six months; and
- evidence of ongoing business activity.
Religious Worker Documents
Religious workers should provide:
- an invitation from the mosque, church, association or other organization in Canada; and
- a letter from the Egyptian Ministry of Endowment (**Awkaf**) or the applicant’s church in Egypt.
The letter must state the purpose of the trip and identify who will pay the travel expenses.
Minors and Applicants 75 or Older
An applicant under 18 who is travelling alone must either:
- have both parents attend the Visa Application Centre to authorize the application; or
- provide a notarized statement signed by both parents permitting the child to travel to Canada.
Applicants aged 75 or older must provide health insurance covering the period of travel to Canada.
