Cameroon to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Cameroon must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions identify the additional local forms and supporting documents that may be required for an application involving Cameroonian nationals.
For Cameroon applicants, the country-specific requirements include additional IMM forms, military service records where applicable, and special supporting documents when a child’s birth certificate was not issued at the time of birth.
Required Forms
Applicants from Cameroon must complete the following country-specific forms where applicable:
- Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]
- Required for the principal applicant.
- Required for all family members included in the application who are 18 years old or older.
- Details of Military Service [IMM 5546]
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
- held a high-ranking or senior official government position, or
- served in the military, army, defence, or police unit, including National Service.
- Required for anyone included in the application who has ever:
If IMM 5546 applies, submit a copy of all pages of the person’s military card or booklet, including blank pages.
Children’s Documents
If a child’s birth certificate issued by Cameroon was not issued at the time of birth, submit copies of:
- the supplementary judgment
- another official document naming the parents
- school documents listing the parents, if available
- the household registry
If school documents listing the parents cannot be obtained, provide an explanation.
Cameroon to Canada Express Entry
Cameroon is a significant source country for permanent residence through Canada’s Express Entry system, with many applicants bringing skilled work experience, post-secondary education, and French or bilingual language ability. From 2021 to the first quarter of 2026, IRCC data shows 31,830 admissions of permanent residents under Express Entry for Cameroon, showing the continued importance of this pathway for skilled workers moving to Canada.

Strong French results, English results, or a combination of both can affect CRS performance and may support access to relevant selection opportunities. For applicants in Cameroon, success through a PNP depends on identifying the right provincial pathway and preparing documents that support the stream’s requirements. Depending on the province, candidates may need skilled work experience, language test results, education credentials, an eligible occupation, a job offer, previous study or work experience in the province, or another connection that supports their intent to settle there.
A Cameroon-focused PNP strategy should compare provincial options based on the applicant’s occupation, education, work history, language scores, job offer potential, and long-term settlement goals. With the right preparation, applicants from Cameroon can identify suitable nomination opportunities and approach the provincial nomination process with greater clarity and confidence.
Cameroon to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Cameroon must follow the Dakar visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Dakar Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5826, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Cameroon applicants, IMM 5826 focuses on recommended application timing, academic records, a one-page study plan, financial documents, sources of funds, and sponsor evidence where applicable.
Required Forms

Intake Timing
Cameroon study permit applicants should plan to submit their applications according to the recommended timelines for each Canadian academic intake:
- before June 15 for the fall session, which usually begins in September;
- before October 15 for the winter session, which usually begins in January; and
- before February 15 for the summer session, which usually begins in May.
These are local filing recommendations from the Dakar visa office rather than general study permit deadlines for all applicants. They do not guarantee that a decision will be made before classes begin, but they can help applicants submit their applications early enough for the intended intake.
Student Records
Cameroon study permit applicants should provide documents confirming their current or previous post-secondary education.
Applicants should include:
- copies of transcripts from every post-secondary institution they have attended; and
- copies of any certificates, diplomas or degrees issued by those institutions.
This requirement is specific to post-secondary records. General education history, admission requirements and letter of acceptance rules are addressed separately under the standard study permit requirements.
Study Plan
Cameroon study permit applicants must provide a one-page study plan explaining the purpose of their proposed studies in Canada and how the program fits their educational background and future plans.
The study plan should explain:
- why the applicant wants to study in Canada in the program to which they have been accepted;
- the applicant’s overall educational goal;
- why they are not pursuing a similar program in Cameroon or in their country of residence;
- what research they have conducted into available study options in Cameroon or in their country of citizenship;
- how the proposed Canadian program may improve their employment opportunities in Cameroon or in their country of residence or citizenship; and
- the ties they have to Cameroon or to their country of residence or citizenship.
Applicants who have been out of full-time education for more than two years should also provide a CV or resumé.
Financial Evidence
Cameroon study permit applicants should provide evidence that they have sufficient funds to cover the average cost of one year of study in Canada.
The application should include:
- bank statements covering at least the previous four months;
- documents explaining the source of any lump-sum deposits;
- additional evidence showing that the funds come from a reliable source; and
- a letter of undertaking and supporting financial documents from a parent or sponsor, where applicable.
The Dakar checklist places particular importance on the source of the funds. If an account contains large or recent deposits, applicants should provide documents showing where the money came from.
When a third party is financing the applicant’s studies, the application should include:
- the sponsor’s financial documents, such as bank statements and employment records;
- evidence showing the source of the sponsor’s funds;
- a letter explaining why the sponsor is providing financial support;
- details of the sponsor’s relationship to the applicant, number of dependants and amount of support;
- proof of the relationship, if the sponsor is a relative;
- proof of the sponsor’s legal status in Canada, if applicable;
- the summary page of the sponsor’s most recent Canada Revenue Agency income tax statement, if the sponsor is in Canada; and
- a copy of the sponsor’s photo identification.
Applicants who have received a scholarship, award or other financial assistance should provide an official letter confirming the amount of the funding, its duration and any applicable conditions.
Cameroon to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Cameroon may need to follow the Dakar visa office instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa checklist. These instructions are listed in the Dakar Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5865.
For Cameroon applicants, IMM 5865 includes an urgent submission option for official travel through the Canadian diplomatic mission in Cameroon.
Visa Office Instructions
Cameroon visitor visa applicants may need to follow the Dakar Visa Office Instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa requirements.
Relevant visa office instructions:
IMM 5865 includes additional instructions concerning financial and occupational evidence, business and event travel, returning students, minors, official travel and the CAN+ program.
Applicants travelling on a diplomatic, official or service passport, or representing Cameroon in an official capacity, may follow the separate official-travel checklist included in IMM 5865. For urgent official travel, applications may be submitted to the Canadian diplomatic mission in Cameroon, with a stated processing period of two to five working days.
Financial and Occupational Evidence
Applicants paying for their own trip should provide:
- original personal bank statements covering the previous six months; and
- pay slips covering the previous six months.
Business owners should also provide:
- business registration certificates;
- tax returns;
- certificates of qualification;
- business financial statements; and
- original commercial bank statements covering the previous six months.
If another person is paying for the trip, that person may provide:
- a letter confirming financial responsibility for the applicant’s stay;
- recent personal bank statements;
- an employment contract showing their salary;
- pay slips;
- term deposit statements showing their name, account balance and the date the account was opened; and
- a copy of their national identity card or passport.
Employees should provide a current employer letter and pay slips covering the previous six months. The employer letter must be dated no more than two months before the application and confirm the applicant’s occupation, salary and allowances, years of service and approved leave.
Entrepreneurs and self-employed applicants should provide:
- financial statements related to their business activity for the previous two years;
- letters patent; and
- a business licence.
Students should provide evidence of their current studies, such as a recent enrolment letter and academic transcripts.
Legal residents of Cameroon may use the CAN+ simplified checklist if they were issued a multiple-entry temporary resident visa to Canada or the United States within the previous five years and have had no immigration infractions in any country.
Business and Event Travel
Applicants travelling to Canada for business should provide:
- financial and business records, such as financial statements, letters patent, a business licence, transaction reports or a prospectus;
- documents showing their intended business activities and contacts in Canada;
- proof of their relationship with the Canadian businesses they plan to visit;
- an invitation from their Canadian business contacts confirming the purpose and duration of the trip and providing the contact person’s name, business address and telephone number;
- a letter from their employer confirming the purpose of the trip, date of hire, position, salary, approved leave and who will pay the travel costs;
- their travel itinerary; and
- details and proof of funds from the person or organization paying for the trip.
Applicants travelling for a seminar, trade show or conference should provide:
- an invitation from the Canadian organization identifying the invited applicant, together with registration and hotel confirmation;
- written confirmation, signed by the organization paying the expenses, confirming that it will cover the cost of travel and the stay in Canada; and
- a signed and dated employer letter confirming the specific purpose and duration of the trip and the applicant’s employment details.
Returning Students and Minors
Students returning to Canada to continue their studies should provide:
- a passport valid for the remaining duration of their studies;
- a valid Canadian study permit;
- an admission letter or proof of registration showing the courses selected for the upcoming session;
- copies of transcripts from all completed sessions;
- a copy of their airline ticket or reservation;
- a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec valid for at least six months, where applicable; and
- Canadian bank statements showing the student’s transactions during the previous 12 months.
Children should have their own passports. Where applicable, they should also provide a letter from their school confirming that they are on vacation.
A minor under 18 travelling with only one parent or without either parent should provide:
- a passport;
- notarized permission to travel signed by both parents, or a notarized copy of the applicable custody document;
- the child’s birth certificate and the birth certificates of both parents;
- proof of registration for the next school year at a recognized school in their country; and
- their most recent academic transcript.
A minor travelling alone or with an adult other than a parent must also provide:
- a notarized letter from the Canadian citizen or permanent resident guardian who will receive the child in Canada; and
- notarized travel authorization from both parents.
Official and Urgent Travel
Applicants travelling on a diplomatic, official or service passport, or representing Cameroon in an official capacity, may use the separate official-travel checklist in IMM 5865.
No application fee is required for:
- diplomats;
- applicants travelling on diplomatic, official or service passports; or
- applicants travelling to Canada as official representatives of Cameroon.
The application should include:
- two recent photographs;
- the applicant’s original passport and a photocopy of its identification pages;
- a Note Verbale issued by the applicant’s mission or government; and
- a letter of invitation or travel order that identifies the organization responsible for the expenses, where applicable.
Applicants are encouraged to apply online or through the nearest visa application centre.
For urgent official travel, applicants residing in Cameroon may also submit their application to the Canadian Embassy or High Commission in Cameroon. IMM 5865 states that applications submitted through this urgent official-travel route may be processed within two to five working days.
