Belize to Canada Spousal Sponsorship
Applicants applying for spousal sponsorship from Belize must follow the country-specific IRCC instructions alongside the standard sponsorship application checklist. These instructions confirm whether any additional local forms or document requirements apply to applications involving Belizean nationals.
For Belize applicants, no extra country-specific forms are required. However, official documents issued by the Registrar General of Belize must meet the applicable certification requirement before they are submitted with the sponsorship application.

There are no extra country-specific forms required for Belize.
Civil Documents
Official documents issued by the Registrar General of Belize must be submitted as government-certified true copies.
These copies must be:
- certified as authentic by the government office that issued them
- signed
- sealed
Belize to Canada Study Permit
Applicants applying for a Canada study permit from Belize must follow the Mexico City visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Mexico City Visa Office Additional Document Checklist — IMM 5837, which is used together with the standard Canada study permit checklist.
For Belize applicants, IMM 5837 focuses on passport validity, local immigration status where applicable, VAC consent where required, and financial documents for the first year of study in Canada.
Required Forms
Belize study permit applicants must follow the Mexico City Visa Office Additional Document Checklist for study permits.
Country-specific checklist:
IMM 5837 is used alongside the standard study permit checklist. It does not replace the general study permit requirements.
If the application is submitted through a Visa Application Centre, IMM 5837 also asks for the VAC Consent Form where applicable.
Passport and Status
IMM 5837 asks Belize applicants to provide a valid passport or travel document. The passport should have one completely blank page available, other than the last page, and should be valid for at least six months and for the full duration of the planned stay in Canada. A visa cannot be issued beyond the passport’s validity.
The checklist also includes a local-status instruction for non-Mexicans applying from Mexico. This is not a standard Belize-specific document, but it may matter if the applicant is physically applying from Mexico instead of Belize. In that case, the applicant must provide a copy of their Mexican immigration document, such as an FM2, FM3, tourist visa, or similar status document.
Financial Evidence
Proof of funds is a general study permit requirement, but IMM 5837 gives specific document instructions for applicants using the Mexico City checklist.
Applicants should provide proof that they have enough money to cover tuition and living expenses for at least one year in Canada.
If a third party, including a parent, is providing the funds, the application should include:
- a signed letter from the person providing the funds;
- a photocopy of that person’s passport or other official photo identification;
- a bank certificate proving that the person has sufficient funds.
The sponsor documents must be dated within three months of the date the study permit application is submitted.
Belize to Canada Visitor Visa
Applicants applying for a Canada visitor visa from Belize may need to follow the Mexico City visa office instructions for local document requirements. These instructions are listed in the Mexico City Visa Office Instructions — IMM 5878, which is used together with the standard temporary resident visa checklist.
For Belize applicants, IMM 5878 does not identify any separate Belize-specific documents, local authority records, country-specific forms, or Belize-only submission requirements.
Visa Office Instructions
Belize visitor visa applicants may need to follow the Mexico City Visa Office Instructions in addition to the standard temporary resident visa requirements.

IMM 5878 provides additional document and application instructions for applicants from Belize whose applications are processed through the Mexico City visa office.
Financial Evidence and Travel History
Belize visitor visa applicants should provide evidence that they can cover the expenses of their visit.
Applicants who do not qualify under the CAN+ provisions should include financial documents such as:
- bank statements covering the previous three months;
- employment letters and recent pay slips;
- pension statements;
- business registration or investment records; and
- other documents showing available financial resources.
If another person is paying for the trip, the application should also include:
- a signed letter confirming the financial support;
- a copy of the supporter’s passport or other official photo identification;
- evidence that the supporter has sufficient funds; and
- an explanation of the relationship between the applicant and the supporter.
Applicants should also include any cancelled or expired passports they hold as evidence of previous international travel.
Purpose-Specific Documents
Additional documents may be required depending on the purpose of the applicant’s visit to Canada.
Business visitors should provide a letter from their employer explaining the purpose of the trip and listing the names and addresses of the companies or contacts they plan to visit.
Applicants travelling to Canada for a period of study lasting less than six months should include an acceptance letter from the Canadian educational institution.
Applicants transiting through Canada by air for less than 48 hours should provide their travel itinerary and, where applicable, proof that they are authorized to enter their destination country. Travellers taking a cruise that stops at a Canadian port require a visitor visa rather than a transit visa, even when they do not plan to leave the ship.
Applicants visiting family or friends should provide an invitation letter that includes the inviter’s full name and date of birth.
Emergency Processing Requests
Belize visitor visa applicants submitting a temporary resident visa application through the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City may use the Emergency Processing Request Form included in IMM 5878 when urgent processing is needed.
The form requires the applicant’s identity and passport details, intended departure date, information about accompanying travellers, the reason for the emergency request, contact information, signature and date.
The completed form should be placed on top of the temporary resident visa application. Submitting the form does not guarantee expedited processing.
