Ontario PNP (OINP)
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is one of Canada’s most recognized provincial immigration programs, offering a pathway to permanent residency for individuals with the skills and qualifications needed in Ontario’s labour market. As the most populous and multicultural province, Ontario welcomes over 40% of new immigrants to Canada annually. With cities like Toronto leading in diversity and economic growth, the province remains a top choice for skilled newcomers.
Through the OINP, Ontario can nominate eligible candidates for permanent residence based on provincial labour needs and economic development goals. The program supports employers in addressing workforce shortages and helps international graduates transition into Ontario’s job market. Applicants are selected based on factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and ability to integrate into Ontario’s communities.
The OINP consists of three main categories:
- Job Offer Streams: includes the Foreign Worker Stream, International Student Stream, and In-Demand Skills Stream.
- Express Entry Streams: aligned with Canada’s federal Express Entry system, including the Human Capital Priorities, French-Speaking Skilled Worker, and Skilled Trades Stream.
- Post-Graduate Streams: for graduates from Ontario institutions, including the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate Streams.
Some streams require a full-time, permanent job offer from an Ontario employer, while others—such as the Masters and PhD streams—do not. This makes the OINP an accessible option for both skilled professionals and international graduates.
Applying through the OINP is a two-step process. First, candidates apply to Ontario for a provincial nomination. If nominated, they can then submit an application for permanent residence to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), either through Express Entry or a paper-based stream, depending on eligibility.
The OINP also helps employers hire international talent for long-term positions. In-demand sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, construction, and skilled trades receive focused attention, helping to fill labour gaps across the province.
Applicants should note that Ontario charges a $1,500 non-refundable application fee to process each application.
